Video: Does Your BlackBerry Bold 9930 Browser Crash?

August 24, 2011 by Rod 2 Comments

I originally wrote a post on Simple Mobile Review about issues with the BlackBerry Bold 9930 browser crashing. I was wondering how many RIMarkable users have upgraded to the Bold 9930 and have noticed stability issues with the web browser. I feel the 9930 is likely the best BlackBerry device ever made, however, when using the browser the phone frequently becomes sluggish and unresponsive leading the a crash.

Eventually you get an error stating:

Uncaught exception: Application

net_rim_bb)_browser_daemon (324) is not responding; process terminated

I will apologize up front as the video is long but at 2 min 17sec you can see the first crash.  The screenshots above highlight the error dialog you see upon crashing.   Are any of you having this issue and if so what sites are causing the browser to crash?  I detailed how to replicate the crash on Simple Mobile Review but you can also see this in the video.

Watch TV on your BlackBerry with SPB TV 2.0

January 25, 2011 by Rod 3 Comments

SPB TV 2.0 is an IP TV streaming solution for BlackBerry devices. If you have any experience with video streaming you can appreciate the general frustration with video quality that sometimes looks like a puzzel with various pieces missing. In general the challenge with video streaming is around limited or unpredictable bandwidth. Try to suspend the preconceptions and imagine a solution designed to perform on mobile devices over 3G data services.

Lexar Announces 32GB Class 10 High-Speed MicroSD Card

January 6, 2011 by Rod Leave a Comment

This might be over kill for your BlackBerry, but Lexar has introduced a 32GB Class 10 High Speed Mobile microSDHC card at CES. I have been using a 8 GB Class 6 microSD card and can say I noticed the performance increase over having a 16 GB class 2 microSD card. I guess I like the idea of having a larger card so I can download large files from DropBox; keep more episodes in PodTrapper; or download more Audible books; and never have to worry about storage.

I know I frequently clean up podcasts, pictures, and videos to make space on my current card.

iCarpus is a Great Multimedia Stand for your BlackBerry

December 1, 2010 by Rod Leave a Comment

We recently did a post on Simple Mobile Review about multimedia stands for your smartphones that are under $13. If you enjoy watching movies or TV shows on your BlackBerry you should consider a stand. iCarpus is a great while sitting at your desk or in your airplane seat. Over the last year we have been huge fans of the MovieWedge, but recently we have started using iCarpus as a multimedia stand. Looking for a Good way to Avoid Parking Tickets on Expired Meters

November 24, 2010 by Rod 3 Comments

I was reading a post about 5 great travel applications and one particular application caught my eye called SmartPark. If you have ever received a ticket for parking at a meter after the time has expired then this application may be of interest. I live in the Washington Metropolitan area so I frequently need to park at meters in DC and Baltimore. I always look at what time I left and try to remember to return to feed the meter. I guess I could use a count down timer or an alarm but this is what simple apps are designed for. [Read more…] about Looking for a Good way to Avoid Parking Tickets on Expired Meters

Deal: Replace the Battery in Your BlackBerry for $3.33

November 23, 2010 by Rod 4 Comments

This morning I ordered a new battery for my BlackBerry Bold 9650 because I was finding it a challenge to get through half a day without charging. I am one for finding deals and normally I shell out $40 and just buy a battery from Seidio. I shipped Robb the battery form my old Storm when he was having battery problems as it made no sense to purchase a battery for $40 when you can get a new phone at Amazon for 1¢. Inexpensive Stereo Headset for your BlackBerry

November 22, 2010 by Rod 1 Comment

I am not one of the lucky people that can use the headsets the come in the package with your BlackBerry but if you can you should checkout the OEM Stereo headsets over at Amazon. Several of my work colleagues are ordering 5 – 10 of these at a time as they only cost $1.95 $2.60. With such a low price you can order several; one in the cars, one in your bag, one with your phone, and one at your desk. If you develop a short in the cable you can just throw it away an not wonder if it was worth the price. [Read more…] about Inexpensive Stereo Headset for your BlackBerry

Do you Enjoy Audiobooks on your BlackBerry?

November 11, 2010 by Rod Leave a Comment

It seems the times I enjoy Audible the most is when I travel. A great audiobook can make a 9 hour drive go by in the blink of an eye. When I am at home I spend a great deal of time reading books on my Kindle, currently I am reading On Writing by Steven King which is proving to be an interesting read. I was trying to get my brother-in-law to read the book, but despite my best attempts he is just not a reader. I suggested he download the Audible app for his BlackBerry and in a single road trip he completed the Audible version of  On Writing. As I started to browse Audible I realized most of the books I have read over the past 7 years are available in audio format.  [Read more…] about Do you Enjoy Audiobooks on your BlackBerry?

Need Suggestions on How to Install ETrade Mobile on OS 6

November 11, 2010 by Rod 5 Comments

I have a BlackBerry Bold 9650 running a leaked version of OS6. I have resigned myself to the limitation of running a leaked OS. I was presented with a BlackBerry question I could not answer for another leaked OS user. How can you download and install ETrade Mobile Pro on a BlackBerry running OS 6? The challenge is when you navigate to the ETrade site you get blocked from installing.  I suspect the block is related to the detected OS version. I almost suggested downgrading, but figured there may be and easier way. Or is the the cost of running a leaked OS/latest OS?
