Just the other day we told you how Verizon is offering the BlackBerry Storm for $99, however, that isn’t the best deal in town for those singing up to new contracts.
AmazonWireless is offering the BlackBerry Storm for $49.99 on a new 2-year contract, but, the real deal is with Wirefly.com who is offering the Storm for $29.99 to new Verizon subscribers.
As I’ve said before, the BlackBerry Storm, deservedly so, got a lot of bad press until the latest update that now ships on the device came out a few months ago, however, now that RIM has put a proper OS on the BlackBerry Storm, it is not a bad device at all.
Slacker, personally my favorite among the streaming internet radio applications for BlackBerry, is now being pushed to BlackBerry Storm devices automatically. Slacker and Verizon have worked out a deal in which Verizon will push Slacker Personal Radio for BlackBerry out to all Verizon BlackBerry Storm users. This special version of Slacker connects to V Cast and will allow users to purchase and download the songs they are currently listening to directly to their BlackBerry Storm.
With the largest music library of any personal radio app, Slacker Radio makes your BlackBerry Storm smartphone the ultimate music player,” said Jonathan Sasse, senior vice president of marketing at Slacker. “By integrating with V CAST Music, Slacker listeners will now have the ability to easily purchase music as they listen to their favorite stations.

Remember back before Verizon finally decided to update the firmware on the BlackBerry Storm 9530 to OS 4.7.0.148 it seemed like there was a new leaked OS build hitting some download site every 2 or 3 weeks? Well, we aren’t sure if we are going to start seeing new leaked OS updates coming at us that fast and furious again, but, we can say that there is a new OS out for the BlackBerry Storm.
Lusacell has actually released BlackBerry OS 4.7.0.151 for the BlackBerry Storm and it is available on RIM’s site, so, I am not sure that it is fair to call the OS a leak. It isn’t, however, officially supported on the BlackBerry Storm from Verizon so you will have to treat it as such if you decide to install it to your Verizon branded BlackBerry Storm 9530.

When the BlackBerry Storm first made its debut last fall it got, deservedly so, an awful lot of bad press. The OS that shipped completely didn’t work and the first official update was barely tolerable. Since, however, the latest official update for the BlackBerry Storm was released, we really haven’t heard much bad news about the BlackBerry Storm.
Sure, you will find a vocal few who will tell you how bad the Storm still is and how it can’t compete with the iPhone, but, if you can get used to the keyboard, the Storm really isn’t all that bad a device.
In Consumer Reports latest smartphone survey, the iPhone 3Gs came out on top with a rating of 73 out of a possible 100 points. With all of the bad press that the Storm has received you may have thought that it would have been trounced by the iPhone, however, it had a respectable showing with respect to the iPhone with a total of 69 points.
There are still a lot of improvements that can be made to the BlackBerry Storm and we hope that we see them soon once BlackBerry OS 5 for the Storm comes out, however, the BlackBerry Storm right now, with OS 4.7.0.148, may be a better than a lot of people think.
We’ve known for a while that it true Skype client for the the BlackBerry was in the works, however, it would appear that a Beta Skype Client for the BlackBerry Storm has been leaked.
Skype Beta for the BlackBerry Storm is a desktop installed App and I hear (I’ve yet to install it myself) that it has a few bugs. If, however, you want to give it a go for yourself, you can get the desktop loader files at the link below.

Word on the street is that the Verizon BlackBerry Storm will receive an official software update, BlackBerry OS 4.7.0.203, this coming Sunday, May 31st. I’ve got just 4 words…
It’s about frigging time!
