BlackBerry Crimson

Hey Verizon,

We know that it takes you a year to get the CDMA version of BlackBerry devices after everyone else gets the GPRS ones, so I make this request on behalf of the all the BlackBerry 7250 and 8703e users that would like to go to a CameraBerry with a full QWERTY keyboard but don’t want to wait until 2008 to get one.

Can we skip the BlackBerry Pearl and go straight to the BlackBerry 8800 Crimson?

We know that you have a lot of BlackBerry 7130e customers that are happy with SureType. Heck, I am one of them, however, it is more about the size of the 7130e and not so much the SureType keyboard that attracts people to it. Don’t get me wrong. I don’t have a problem with SureType and actually think it is kind of cool. I, however, don’t have a problem with full QWERTY keyboards either so long as the device that I am using it on isn’t the size of pocket calculator from 1984.

As you have probably heard the rumors by now, Research in Motion will soon come out with it’s next-generation, full QWERTY keyboard, MP3 playing, Wi-Fi enabled, Razr thin smartphone called the BlackBerry 8800. There will actually be two versions (at least two) of the 8800, one without a digital camera code named “Indigo” rumored to come out late this year, and one with a digital camera code named “Crimson” rumored to come out Q2 of 07.

The question of the day is will the BlackBerry 8800 be even more popular than the BlackBerry Pearl? As you can see from a poll over on BlackBerry Forums, almost 60% of the poll takers say that they are 100% sure that they will get a BlackBerry 8800. Based on this I would have to say that the 8800, at least with existing BlackBerry users, could be more popular than the Pearl.

The Boy Genius is back, this time with their own blog, and they’ve got more information on the upcoming BlackBerry 8800 Indigo and Crimson devices. It looks like BG has found a product road map and feature set for both BlackBerry 8800 devices, complete with approximate release dates and even an accessories page.

We’ve posted thumbs of all the images after the jump, however, you can see the full images if you head on over to The Boy Genius Report.

I believe it’s safe to say that the BlackBerry Pearl is a big hit for Research in Motion. As of this morning before market open RIM’s stock price is above $108. The BlackBerry Pearl isn’t soley responsible for dropping half a billion dollars or so into the wallets of RIM’s co-CEOs, however, it did play a big role.

Rumor has it that a new CameraBerry called the BlackBerry 8800 Crimson will hit shelves sometime next Spring. By many accounts the Crimson is considered to be the perfect mobile PDA. It will be small, have a full QWERTY keyboard, a digital camera, miniSD, Wi-Fi… b and g, quad band GSM with EDGE, and since it is a BlackBerry… will work.

Once consumer software like a Skype client, SlingPlayer Mobile for BlackBerry, Windows Live Messenger, and a VNC client starts coming out, RIM will not be able to make these things fast enough.

The BlackBerry Pearl, for Research in Motion, is big. Let’s just say that the BlackBerry Crimson will be bigger.
