Will You Leave Verizon To Get A BlackBerry 8800?

January 7, 2007 by Robb Dunewood 12 Comments

We know, according to the rumors, that the BlackBerry 8800 could be released as early as this month on T-Mobile and / or Cingular. Although many believe, myself included, that Verizon may release the BlackBerry 8800 much sooner than expected, possibly by Q1 according to some predictions, the norm for the carrier with undoubtedly the nations best network is to release CDMA versions of new BlackBerry devices 9 to 12 months after their GSM counterparts.

If Verizon sticks to business as usual and doesn’t plan to release the BlackBerry 8800 on their network until sometime after Thanksgiving to possibly a year from now, will you switch carriers to get the BlackBerry 8800?

Will RIM Release A BlackBerry 8800 For Verizon Sooner Than Expected?

January 3, 2007 by Robb Dunewood 17 Comments

I was just reading frequent RIMarkable commenter Thought’s column over on BlackBerry Cool where he makes a few 2007 BlackBerry predictions. The one that I absolutely hope comes true is:

RIM will release a BlackBerry 8800 for Verizon sooner than expected.

Thought thinks that Verizon may offer the BlackBerry 8800 in the first half of the year and possibly as early as Q1. If this prediction comes true thousands of Verizon BlackBerry subscribers, myself included, will jump for joy.

Thought, I hope you got this one right.

Will the BlackBerry 8800 be the big thing for RIM in 2007?

January 2, 2007 by Robb Dunewood 6 Comments

As far as devices go, I don’t think too many would argue that the BlackBerry Pearl was the biggest thing to happen to BlackBerry maker Research in Motion last year. There was no question that it was a big factor, along with the NTP settlement, in RIM’s stock price run up of over 100% last year.

When I think back on the BlackBerry Pearl, no one heard of it before the end of June. Remember when Boy Genius popped onto the scene with his leak of the BlackBerry Stealth? The BlackBerry Pearl was only the big thing for RIM in the second half of the year.

This makes me wonder if the BlackBerry 8800 will be the big thing for RIM in 2007 or if some other BlackBerry that hasn’t been leaked yet will be sales juggernaut for RIM.

What do you think?

RIM Buys BlackBerry8800.com from Cybersqautter

December 18, 2006 by Robb Dunewood 4 Comments

Russell Shaw over on BBHub is reporting that one of the owners of the domain name BlackBerry8800.com has been contacted by Research in Motion and that a deal has been worked out to transfer ownership of the domain to RIM.

Registering domain names in anticipation of a company wanting to use that domain name later, or cybersquatting as it is often called, can be quite lucrative when compared to the 8 to 10 dollar initial investment. Cas Thompson, the cybersquatter that owned BlackBerry8800.com hasn’t disclosed the terms of the agreement with RIM, however, says that the BlackBerry maker has ‘huge’ plans for the site and that the BlackBerry 8800 will be available very soon.

There are Reports of a BlackBerry 8800 on the loose

December 15, 2006 by Robb Dunewood 8 Comments

It looks like an email has been sent to BlackBerryCool and BBHub from the administrator of Spain-based Miblackberry.com with a screen cap of his server logs that shows that his site was accessed by a BlackBerry 8800.

With the BlackBerry 8800 being rumored to be released as soon as the mid to late January, test units are undoubtedly floating around at this point.

We didn’t get the email, however, the screen cap was posted to Miblackberry’s site as well.

Media Studio for BlackBerry 1.0 Now Available

December 13, 2006 by Robb Dunewood 1 Comment

Vincent Verweij from Makayama Interactive sent me, along with others, an email letting us know that Media Studio for BlackBerry 1.0 was launched today.

The easiest software to transfer DVDs directly to your Blackberry. Convert and watch movies, YouTube video, home videos and much more on the Blackberry Pearl (8100) and other upcoming video-enabled Blackberries.

Media Studio appears to have pretty good compression. You can store up to 8 feature films on a single 1GB memorycard.

Media Studio for BlackBerry 1.0 will set you back $34.95 or 29.95 (EUR) and you can test it out before you buy it. Verizon won’t have the BlackBerry Pearl or 8800 until sometime around 2024 so I won’t be able to give you a full review. If one of you BlackBerry Pearl toting CrackBerry Addicts give it the once over, leave us a comment and let us know what you think.

Verizon… Can we skip the BlackBerry Pearl and go straight to the BlackBerry 8800?

October 25, 2006 by Robb Dunewood 22 Comments

Hey Verizon,

We know that it takes you a year to get the CDMA version of BlackBerry devices after everyone else gets the GPRS ones, so I make this request on behalf of the all the BlackBerry 7250 and 8703e users that would like to go to a CameraBerry with a full QWERTY keyboard but don’t want to wait until 2008 to get one.

Can we skip the BlackBerry Pearl and go straight to the BlackBerry 8800 Crimson?

We know that you have a lot of BlackBerry 7130e customers that are happy with SureType. Heck, I am one of them, however, it is more about the size of the 7130e and not so much the SureType keyboard that attracts people to it. Don’t get me wrong. I don’t have a problem with SureType and actually think it is kind of cool. I, however, don’t have a problem with full QWERTY keyboards either so long as the device that I am using it on isn’t the size of pocket calculator from 1984.

Will the BlackBerry 8800 be even more popular than the BlackBerry Pearl?

October 23, 2006 by Robb Dunewood 10 Comments

As you have probably heard the rumors by now, Research in Motion will soon come out with it’s next-generation, full QWERTY keyboard, MP3 playing, Wi-Fi enabled, Razr thin smartphone called the BlackBerry 8800. There will actually be two versions (at least two) of the 8800, one without a digital camera code named “Indigo” rumored to come out late this year, and one with a digital camera code named “Crimson” rumored to come out Q2 of 07.

The question of the day is will the BlackBerry 8800 be even more popular than the BlackBerry Pearl? As you can see from a poll over on BlackBerry Forums, almost 60% of the poll takers say that they are 100% sure that they will get a BlackBerry 8800. Based on this I would have to say that the 8800, at least with existing BlackBerry users, could be more popular than the Pearl.

The Boy Genius is back, this time with their own blog, and they’ve got more information on the upcoming BlackBerry 8800 Indigo and Crimson devices. It looks like BG has found a product road map and feature set for both BlackBerry 8800 devices, complete with approximate release dates and even an accessories page.

We’ve posted thumbs of all the images after the jump, however, you can see the full images if you head on over to The Boy Genius Report.
