BlackBerry Forums moderator Stinsonddog is confirming via BlackBerry Cool and BlackBerry Forums that he has received an invitation to an exclusive event hosted by Research in Motion co-CEOs Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie as well as the president of Cingular’s Business Markets Group, Kent Mathy on February 20th.

You are invited to join Research in Motion® and Cingular, now the new AT&T, as we reveal new solutions for enterprise productivity and extend the service, expertise and applications that you have come to expect from us.

Mark February 20, 2007 on your calendar for this exclusive event.

It looks like RIM and Cingular are holding launch events much like they did with the release of the BlackBerry 8700. Stinsonddog says that there will be events in New York on the 20th followed by an event in San Francisco on the 22nd.

Stinsonddog isn’t posting the link in the email he received, however, is saying that the picture of the BlackBerry featured on the launch event webpage header is named 8800c.

Rumor has it that Verizon will get a hybrid CDMA / GSM BlackBerry built on the BlackBerry 8800 series device in Q2. Like the BlackBerry 8800, the new Verizon BlackBerry, code named Cyclone, will have a media player, removable media, AGPS and Bluetooth 2.0.

Details are still a bit scarce. All we really know is that the BlackBerry Cyclone will look like a BlackBerry 8800 and come out sometime in the Spring.

If this rumor is true, I cannot wait.

We know, according to the rumors, that the BlackBerry 8800 could be released as early as this month on T-Mobile and / or Cingular. Although many believe, myself included, that Verizon may release the BlackBerry 8800 much sooner than expected, possibly by Q1 according to some predictions, the norm for the carrier with undoubtedly the nations best network is to release CDMA versions of new BlackBerry devices 9 to 12 months after their GSM counterparts.

If Verizon sticks to business as usual and doesn’t plan to release the BlackBerry 8800 on their network until sometime after Thanksgiving to possibly a year from now, will you switch carriers to get the BlackBerry 8800?

I was just reading frequent RIMarkable commenter Thought’s column over on BlackBerry Cool where he makes a few 2007 BlackBerry predictions. The one that I absolutely hope comes true is:

RIM will release a BlackBerry 8800 for Verizon sooner than expected.

Thought thinks that Verizon may offer the BlackBerry 8800 in the first half of the year and possibly as early as Q1. If this prediction comes true thousands of Verizon BlackBerry subscribers, myself included, will jump for joy.

Thought, I hope you got this one right.

As far as devices go, I don’t think too many would argue that the BlackBerry Pearl was the biggest thing to happen to BlackBerry maker Research in Motion last year. There was no question that it was a big factor, along with the NTP settlement, in RIM’s stock price run up of over 100% last year.

When I think back on the BlackBerry Pearl, no one heard of it before the end of June. Remember when Boy Genius popped onto the scene with his leak of the BlackBerry Stealth? The BlackBerry Pearl was only the big thing for RIM in the second half of the year.

This makes me wonder if the BlackBerry 8800 will be the big thing for RIM in 2007 or if some other BlackBerry that hasn’t been leaked yet will be sales juggernaut for RIM.

What do you think?
