I was just talking with a friend who asked,

” Is there a way to take a screen shot of what is on my BlackBerry’s screen, so that I can email it to someone?”

The answer, of course, is yes.  There are many ways to create screen captures of what is on your BlackBerry devices screen.  Personally, one of my favorite ways to accomplish this is with a slick, free BlackBerry application named Capture It from Tech Mogul that does exactly what its name implies.

Get Up To $15 Back From BlackBerry App World When You Buy 2 Applications

BlackBerry App World is running a Money Back Offer now through Jan. 12th where you can get up to $15 back when you buy two premium applications using your PayPal account.

All you have to do is:

  • Enter the email address associated with your PayPal account
  • Buy two apps from BlackBerry App World between December 17, 2009 and January 12, 2010
  • Get up to $15 plus taxes and fees back from PayPal in 4-6 weeks or by February 23, 2010

If you don’t mind waiting a month to 6 weeks to get your money back from PayPal, this isn’t a bad deal.  It isn’t a bad deal at all…

Update: This still isn’t a bad deal.  It’s just not as good a deal as I first thought.  The “up to $15 back” is only on the second application.

Research In Motion Had A Pretty Good Q3… Added 4.4 Million New BlackBerry Users

Research in Motion today reported thrid quarter results for fiscal year 2010 and and to say that it was a pretty good quarter is a bit of an understatement.  RIM added 4.4 million net new subscribers bringing their global total to 36 million.  10.1 million devices where shipped in Q3 including RIM’s 75 millionth BlackBerry.  Net income for the quarter was $628.4 million, up 32% over Q2, and up up nearly 59% year over year.

Needless to say RIM’s stock (RIMM) is doing quite well in after hours trading.

PayPal Announces “Send Money” Application For BlackBerry

PayPal today announced that its mobile Send Money application is now available for BlackBerry.  According to the press release, the new PayPal Send Money application should be listed on BlackBerry App World, however, we have not been able to find it yet.  Unfortunately,there was not an OTA download link listed.

Any BlackBerry smartphone user who has bought an application on their phone is already familiar with PayPal, as we provide the payment system for BlackBerry App World,” said Eric Duprat, general manager of PayPal Mobile. “We’re thrilled that BlackBerry smartphone users now have an easy way to send money to almost anyone with a phone number or email address anywhere in the world, directly from their phones.

Contrary To Popular Belief, RIM Dominates The U.S. Smartphone Market

You wouldn’t know it based on all the buzz directed towards and hype coming out of that Cupertino, CA based company that used to be known for selling computers, however, the BlackBerry, not the iPhone, dominates the smartphone industry in the United States and it really isn’t even all that close.

According to ComScore who does monthly surveys of U.S. wireless subscribers over the age of thirteen, 36 million of them own smartphones.  Roughly 15 million of these smart phones just happen to be BlackBerry devices.  That is over 41% marketshare.

Will The Google Phone Be Available Jan. 5th?

According to a Reuters source, the Google Phone, also known as the HTC Nexus Ono, the HTC Dream, and the HTC Passion, will be available for sale Jan. 5th.

The Google Phone is expected to come in two variants…  A subsidized T-Mobile version locked to T-Mobile’s network, and an unlocked, unsubsidized version that can be used on any GSM network.

There are also rumors, albeit, less credible than Reuters, that the Google Phone will be relatively inexpensive.  $199 and $99 with a $100 rebate respectively.  An AndroidGuys.com commentator says that the device will be $199 in stores and that the $100 rebate is for users who have an “old” Gmail account.

Getting $100 discount for having an “old” Gmail account sounds a little different.  What I could envision, however, is $199 unlocked.  $199 with a $100 rebate locked to T-Mobile, but, this is just pure speculation.  Whatever the pricing, if it does come in less than $200, I think Google will have a hit on their hands.
