Deal Of The Day: Tether For BlackBerry On Sale 50% Off!

January 28, 2011 by Robb Dunewood 3 Comments

We’ve got a pretty good BlackBerry Deal of the Day, today, January 28th.  Tether for BlackBerry is on sale for $24.99, 50% of the regular price of $49.99.  Tether is on my list of 10 of the greatest BlackBerry applications of all time, and it is one of the best selling applications in the RIMarkable Store.

If you are trying to tether your BlackBerry to your  PC or Mac so that you can use its mobile broadband connection, essentially using your BlackBerry as a modem of sorts for your laptop, Tether is, bar none, the best solution.  Unlike single use charges for Wi-Fi access when in a airport or hotel, Tether is a buy once, use as often as you like, application, and with the 50% off Deal of the Day pricing of just $24.99, it costs less than many wireless providers charge for their monthly tethering plans.

To check Tether out, just head over to www.tetherforblackberry.com.  There is a free trial available, but, remember, the 50% off Deal of the Day price of $24.99 ends tonight at midnight CST.

Check out Tether for BlackBerry for $24.99, today only!

BlackBerry App World 2.1 Beta Available In BlackBerry Beta Zone

January 6, 2011 by Robb Dunewood Leave a Comment

BlackBerry App World 2.1 Beta is now available in BlackBerry Beta Zone and ready for download. New features include:

  • In-app Payments – App World 2.1 includes support for in-app payments.  How does this change the way you interact with certain paid applications as a developer or as a consumer?
  • Filtered Featured Items – Once you open this latest version of App World, you’ll notice that Featured Items are seemingly more relevant to you.  Well, we decided to change this functionality based on the feedback we received from you during the App World 2.0 Beta Program.  Featured Items are now filtered by carrier and country to ensure that you are presented with the most relevant apps as soon as you open App World.
  • Extended BBID Login Session – We heard what you had to say during the App World 2.0 Beta Program last summer and decided to make some changes to the BBID functionality in App World.  With this latest release, a single BBID login session lasts for 20 minutes, making it easier for you to download and install as many apps as you’d like in one go.  Please remember that during the 20 minute BBID login session,  you will not be prompted again for your BlackBerry ID to complete a purchase.  If your BlackBerry smartphone gets in the hands of someone else, they could make a purchase that you’re not aware of.

If you’d like to download BlackBerry App World 2.1 Beta, head over to BlackBerry Beta Zone…

Mobile Check Capture “Coming Soon” To The BlackBerry

December 10, 2010 by Robb Dunewood Leave a Comment

BankServ announced yesterday that their Mobile Check Capture application, maid popular on the iPhone and by PayPal, is now available on the BlackBerry.

After the iPhone version of Mobile Check Capture got such a warm reception, expanding to other mobile OS platforms was a natural next step. There are several other mobile operating systems with established user bases in the millions,” said BankServ vice president Danne Buchanan, who heads the company’s Payment Solutions division. “BlackBerry’s focus on the business client base makes it a particularly attractive fit for our check capture app — and we anticipate that the demand for mobile banking technology is something that is going to exist across all mobile operating systems.

Although Mobile Check Capture is available on the BlackBerry your financial institution must implement the technology.  A lot of banks have implemented Mobile Check Capture for the iPhone, so, hopefully it won’t be long before Black users are added into the fold…

EarPrint App For BlackBerry Offers Ridiculous Management Options For The Sound ID 510 Bluetooth Headset

December 2, 2010 by Robb Dunewood Leave a Comment

Sound ID has released a new BlackBerry application called EarPrint which appears to be a Sound ID 510 Bluetooth Headset management app on steriods.  EarPrint is similar to the Jawbone Battery Meter for BlackBerry app, however, EarPrint does much, much more than just tell you how battery life you have left.

EarPrint features include:

  • PersonalSound™ – With the free EarPrint app, users can customize and save listening preferences via Personal Sound. While on a call, simply drag the ID icon across the phone screen to change the audio parameters and enhance the listening levels.  Choose the audio parameters for three listening modes: Phone, Music and Pass-Thru.
  • Pass-Thru – Enhances hearing ability so soft surrounding sounds can be heard while wearing the headset  and not on a call.
  • Visual Battery Indicator – Provides battery life status.
  • Find Me – Help to locate a missing 510 – press the “Find Me” icon on the phone and the headset will start emitting a beeping sound and the LED will begin to flash.
  • Sound Level Meter – Provides audio details in real-time so users know when sound reaches levels that could potentially damage hearing.
  • In Call Tools – Allows users to have the green LED flash when on a call or remain off.

I haven’t personally used the Sound ID 510 Bluetooth Headset, but, I have heard pretty good reviews.  I may have to check one out myself and give it the once over if for no other reason than to test out the Find Me feature in EarPrint.

BlackBerry App World Surpasses 15,000 Apps

November 30, 2010 by Robb Dunewood Leave a Comment

According to the official @BlackBerry Twitter account, BlackBerry App World has surpassed 15,000 BlackBerry applications.  Seeing how (at the time of this posting) 3835 apps are themes and 3068 apps are Reference & Books, there really are only about 8000 applications, and, even that number is debatable.  There are however, well over 15,000 things in BlackBerry App World that can be downloaded, and seeing how long it took to get there compared to the App Store and Android Marketplace, is definitely worth mentioning.

UberTwitter 1.0 Has Officially Been Released

November 30, 2010 by Robb Dunewood Leave a Comment

UberTwitter has just announced that UberTwitter 1.0 has just been officially released after a long 18 month beta period.

Version 1.0 is now available for download! Yes, you read that right, we’re out of beta. After almost 18 months of reading and responding to over ten thousand emails, and using what we learned to direct and refine the feature set, the most popular Twitter client is now at version 1.0. The headline feature in this release is Facebook integration, of course we could have brought you the same integration that everyone else has, simple echoing your tweet text to Facebook, but no, we wanted your posts from ÜberTwitter to be first class citizens in your Facebook stream, complete with rich media previews for pictures and location. Über posts if you will! We think you’ll really like this feature!

You can download UberTwitter 1.0 at the link below:

10 Of The Greatest BlackBerry Applications Of All Time

November 30, 2010 by Robb Dunewood 6 Comments

Word on the street is that BlackBerry devices have been flying off of the shelves in droves since the official start of the holiday shopping season last week, and, one thing that we know folks with new BlackBerry devices like to do is load them up with great BlackBerry applications.  That being said, here is our list of, in no specific order, 10 of the greatest BlackBerry applications of all time.

  1. Google Maps —  You will be hard pressed to find any type of top ten BlackBerry apps list that doesn’t contain Google Maps.  We know that the native BlackBerry Maps has been recently updated, but, Google Maps is simply an application every BlackBerry user should download.
    Download Google Maps: http://m.google.com/maps
  2. Poynt — Poynt is one of those all-in-one location based search utilities that help you find just about anything that you are looking for locally at the click of a button and it recently one the BlackBerry Super Apps Developer Challenge.
    Download Poynt for BlackBerry:  http://m/poynt.com
  3. Tether —  Tether allows you to use your BlackBerry as a broadband modem so that you can get your laptop (PC or Mac) onto the internet without incurring a monthly fee from your carrier.  This app is awesome…
    Download Tether:  http://www.tetherforblackberry.com
  4. Pandora — There is a lot of debate when it comes to the best Internet radio app available for the BlackBerry, however, Pandora is always in the discussion.  It simply works and it’s free.
    Download Pandora:  http://www.pandora.com/blackberry
  5. BlackBerry Messenger —  BlackBerry Messenger is, hands down, the best mobile Instant Messaging application available on any device.  There are people who buy BlackBerry devices stating, “I want that phone that I can do BBM on”…  BlackBerry Messenger may actually be the greatest BlackBerry application of all time.
    Download BlackBerry Messenger:  http://www.blackberry.com/bbm
  6. Facebook for BlackBerry —  I know that a lot of people will question Facebook for BlackBerry making a greatest BlackBerry applications list, but, it hard to leave off the single most downloaded BlackBerry application of all time.
Download Facebook for BlackBerry -- http://www.blakberry.com/facebook
  7. WorldMate —  If you are anything close to a road warrior and many BlackBerry users are, WorldMate is must install application. Even if you only travel occasionally, WorldMate is a BlackBerry app you may want to check out.  With over 5 million road warriors using the app, WorldMate is the best travel assistant that I’ve ever seen.
    Download WorldMate:  http://www.rimarkable.com/worldmate_live
  8. SocialScope —  Although SocialScope has been in the longest private beta that I have ever seen, over two years, it is widely regarded as the best 3rd party Twitter/Facebook client available on the BlackBerry.
    Download SocialScope:  http://www1.getsocialscope.com/
  9. BerryWeather — When it comes to weather applications for the BlackBerry, BerryWeather, a.k.a. BeWeather on BlackBerry App World, stands above the rest.  BerryWeather offers instant access to current conditions plus detailed 7-day and 24-hour forecasts for over 72.000 locations worldwide.
    Download BerryWeather: http://www.rimarkable.com/berryweather
