Yahoo! Messenger Available For All BlackBerry Users

May 1, 2006 by Robb Dunewood 77 Comments

Back at the end of last summer RIM and Rogers Wireless made Yahoo! Messenger available to BlackBerry users on the Rogers Wireless network up in Canada. Today we are happy to announce that Yahoo! Messenger for BlackBerry is available on all carriers.

I haven’t heard any rumors but I wonder if AOL Instant Messenger and / or MSN Messenger will be coming out with free clients for the BlackBerry anytime soon? There seems to be a persistent battle for top dog IM Client. Google Talk for Blackberry and now Yahoo! Messenger have a bit of an advantage now that they have free clients for BlackBerry.

You can download Yahoo! Messener for BlackBerry directly from your device’s browser by visiting http://mobile.blackberry.com.

Yahoo! Messenger, Google Talk, AOL Instant Messenger, MSN Messenger

I am trying to download messnger on my new 7250 ( I have had it on my last 7250 before it broke, and when I get to the licence agreement page, I click “I accept” and it comes back with an “the page you are trying to load is not supported by your browser” error….This is the same error I get when I try to download google and blackberry maps, and practically everything else… What gives?

Hi. For the Blackberry Yahoo Messenger does it use GPRS? Since my carrier in HK only has limited Blackberry Data, but have unlimited GPRS usage..

I’m confused. The article says…”Today we are happy to announce that Yahoo! Messenger for BlackBerry is available on all carriers.” When I go to the website it states that Yahoo Messenger will not work for AT&T customers. What gives?

Yahoo! Messenger for Blackberry (2.0.38) can’t see when MSN Messenger users are online (they always appear to be offline) and can’t receive messages from them in my experience, but is able to send them messages. Maybe these extra functions will be added in a later version.

AT&T wants you to use text messaging instead of data that Yahoo! Messenger uses. Here are instructions on how to get it to work:

Latest version of Yahoo Messenger (2.0.43) sees a fix in the MSN bug and you can now view the online status of all MSN contacts, but whilst you can send messages out to them, their messages to you cannot be received.

If it says service not avail on most carriers it simply means you have to have the internet package on your blackberry. messenger uses that instead of texting on most carriers in the U.S. I am not sure if it does the same thing in other countries.

I have this BB 8320 phone, I’m here in the Philippines and I can’t use my yahoo messenger when I’m connected to wi-fi.

Someone told me, that I have to download it first via blackberry website before i could use it.

What shall I do, the ICQ, AIM, YM or the third party application on my BB is useless.

Note: But I can surf on my BB if I’m connected to a wifi and I can even view youtube on it.
My problem is, I can’t connect to YM, ICQ, AIM. If I attempt to connect (connected to a wifi not on my mobile subscriber) it says, service not enabled for this handheld. Please help me, otherwise, I dispose this phone again and change to IPHONE

    hi to all,
i want to help even tho i have my baby on my hand right now, all i see here is problem and no Solution.so here it is.

ALL BLACKBERRY NEEDED PUSH E-MAIL IN ORDER FOR YAHOO MESSANGER, BB MESSANGER, FACEBOOK..ETC ..ETC. FOR IT TO WORK. WIFI WILL ONLY ALLOW YOU TO BROWSE INTERNET BUT NOT ALLOW YOU TO USE IM OR ANY OTHER APPLICATION.

PAY AND GO CUSTOMER: you can buy £20 unlimited BB internet FOR 6 MONTHS or £5 PER MONTH VIA T-MOBILE ONLY…I REPEAT VIA T MOBILE ONLY NO OTHER PAY N GO DO THIS. U MUST TXT : 6MONTHSBB TO 441. then they will txt u after 1 to 5 min saying…you handheld has been registered to this service and you bb mail internet is ready to use. thats it.

    LINE RENTAL:
TELL YOUR PROVIDER TO INCLUDE BB MAIL SERVICE TO YOUR PLAN. IT HAS TO BE BLACKBERRY MAIL INTERNET NOT NORMAL INTERNET.

if you didnt understand my explanation you can e-mail me at jaymemia@yahoo.co.uk.

    THANKS PEOPLE HOPE THIS HELPS.

Hi im also from Philippines. im using Globe sim card and mine is working properly in Yahoo Messenger, Facebook, BlackBerry Messenger, MSN, Dictionary and Thesaurus, etc.. all of my applications works fine and smoothly.

all you need to do is subscribe to blackberry by texting BB and activate your BlackBerry services and it has a duration and it costs:
    50php 1day
    220php 5days
    1200php 30 days

BTW i already tried using my WIFI connection to connect to my blackberry applications but it seems that it wont work. i think the only way to activate your applications is by subscribing and registering your phone by your sim cards service provider.

all you need to do is subscribe to blackberry by texting BB ON and send it to 8888 and you will be receiving an authentication that your blackberry services are alreay enabled. but it has a duration and it costs:
    50php 1day
    220php 5days

THIS DOES NOT WORK FOR MAC USERS

PLEASE BACKUP YOUR DEVICE. DESKTOP MANAGER IS VERY EASY TO FOLLOW FOR BACKING UP AND RESTORING!

    – Download the Yahoo Messenger 2.0 service book (NOT THE APPLICATION) from HERE

    – Open Desktop Manager and restore it to your device.

    – Manually register your handset with the RIM network via the HRT editor:

Options > Advanced Options > Host Routing Tables > Menu > Register Now

    – Load your own backup back to the device.

    – Log into your BIS account (the same thing you did when you first set up your BB people!) and re-send service books

    – Download Yahoo Messenger from mobile.blackberry.com

    * If applicable, regenerate encryption keys for Desktop Manager or BES. If you’re on a BES, again, make sure your BES admin can create a policy allowing Yahoo IM traffic.

** If the service does not work right from the install, try doing a hard reset (pulling/reinserting battery).

Both BlackBerry clients have the ability to communicate with both desktop versions of these applications and other BlackBerry versions seamlessly.
