We figure that with UberTwitter being suspended, millions of BlackBerry users will be looking for another Twitter client to use on their device. If you happen to be one of those poor souls, we hope this list will make your search for a new BlackBerry Twitter client go a bit more quickly.
Here is our list of 7 BlackBerry Twitter clients to use while UberTwitter is suspended:
- Twitter for BlackBerry — This is the official BlackBerry Twitter client and I recommend installing it no matter what third party Twitter client you use. It can definitely get you by in times like these.
- SocialScope — I believe that SocialScope is in infinite closed beta, but, if you can get an invite, you may never even go back to UberTwitter.
- Seesmic for BlackBerry — We’ve only talked about Seesmic for BlackBerry a few times, but, Mac users seem to swear by it.
- HootSuite for BlackBerry — HootSuite is kind of cool because, like SocialScope, it connects to your Twitter and Facebook accounts.
- TweetGenius — Haven’t really heard anything bad about TweetGenius other than it cost $8.
- TwiXtreme – We talked about TwiXtreme when it first came out, but, not since. Maybe we should go back and check it out again.
- OpeanBeak — I honestly haven’t messed around with OpeanBeak since they changed the name from TwitterBerry.
For every third party BlackBerry Twitter client that I’ve put on this list, I’ve probably left 2 or 3 off. If you can think of a good Twitter client (updated in the last year or so) drop us a line in the comments.
Word on the street is that BlackBerry devices have been flying off of the shelves in droves since the official start of the holiday shopping season last week, and, one thing that we know folks with new BlackBerry devices like to do is load them up with great BlackBerry applications. That being said, here is our list of, in no specific order, 10 of the greatest BlackBerry applications of all time.
Google Maps – You will be hard pressed to find any type of top ten BlackBerry apps list that doesn’t contain Google Maps. We know that the native BlackBerry Maps has been recently updated, but, Google Maps is simply an application every BlackBerry user should download.

Poynt — Poynt is one of those all-in-one location based search utilities that help you find just about anything that you are looking for locally at the click of a button and it recently one the BlackBerry Super Apps Developer Challenge.

Tether – Tether allows you to use your BlackBerry as a broadband modem so that you can get your laptop (PC or Mac) onto the internet without incurring a monthly fee from your carrier. This app is awesome…

Pandora — There is a lot of debate when it comes to the best Internet radio app available for the BlackBerry, however, Pandora is always in the discussion. It simply works and it’s free.

BlackBerry Messenger – BlackBerry Messenger is, hands down, the best mobile Instant Messaging application available on any device. There are people who buy BlackBerry devices stating, “I want that phone that I can do BBM on”… BlackBerry Messenger may actually be the greatest BlackBerry application of all time.

Facebook for BlackBerry – I know that a lot of people will question Facebook for BlackBerry making a greatest BlackBerry applications list, but, it hard to leave off the single most downloaded BlackBerry application of all time.

WorldMate – If you are anything close to a road warrior and many BlackBerry users are, WorldMate is must install application. Even if you only travel occasionally, WorldMate is a BlackBerry app you may want to check out. With over 5 million road warriors using the app, WorldMate is the best travel assistant that I’ve ever seen.

SocialScope – Although SocialScope has been in the longest private beta that I have ever seen, over two years, it is widely regarded as the best 3rd party Twitter/Facebook client available on the BlackBerry.

BerryWeather — When it comes to weather applications for the BlackBerry, BerryWeather, a.k.a. BeWeather on BlackBerry App World, stands above the rest. BerryWeather offers instant access to current conditions plus detailed 7-day and 24-hour forecasts for over 72.000 locations worldwide.

BerryBuzz — BerryBuzz is a BlackBerry alerts and notifications application on steroids giving you the ability to create custom led colors for almost any event, set repeating alarms, and even vibrate and ring simultaneously when you get incoming calls.

I don’t talk about SocialScope, the third party Twitter/Facebook client for BlackBerry that has been in beta longer than most Google services, all that often simply because it is so hard for most BlackBerry users to get. SocialScope is in closed beta and has been since December of 2008.
That being said, SocialScope has been updated and more Social Scope invites are coming later this week. If you use Facebook and/or Twitter, stop what you are doing, head over to http://www.socialscope.net, and sign up for an invite into the private beta. I can’t promise that you will get in, however, if you do, you will get to tinker around with arguably the best BlackBerry Facebook client I’ve ever seen. The Twitter capabilities aren’t too shabby either…
[New SocialScope Features]
Today at CTIA 2010, CrackBerry Kevin found out that the official Twitter for BlackBerry client will launch next Wednesday, March 31st. Twitter for BlackBerry has been in a “closed” beta for over a month, although you could easily find a leaked version online if you looked hard enough.
If RIM addressed the speed of Twitter for BlackBerry I’d say that it could be a nice little Twitter client. Definitely not the best BlackBerry Twitter client available, but, certainly good enough to significantly decrease the number of people that would be willing to pay for a third party client.
@SocialScope… You should have released your client long ago. You will never make what you could have made if you would have released a client 6 months to a year ago. Sure, some BlackBerry users will buy your client if and when you ever release it. Most, however, won’t…

There is no question that we BlackBerry users are at a disadvantage when it comes applications as compared to users of other smartphone platforms like the iPhone and Android. The list of reasons that this is the case is long and, at the end of the day, RIM has simply got to do better when it comes to BlackBerry applications. There are, however, several BlackBerry applications that should have been developed and released a long time ago, and, I personally am just plain tired of waiting on them…

Our initial impression of Twitter for BlackBerry comes a little later than most. I guess the unofficial BlackBerry blog isn’t big time enough to be on the list of blogs RIM contacts when they want to put a preview of an application out. Our first thought, however, are about the same as most everyone else that did a review…
Is this the best that RIM could come up with?

We’ve been hearing rumors that a new version of SocialScope, one of the best BlackBerry Twitter clients available, in my opinion, will soon get a major update. There still is no definitive date for its release, however, the chatter has been significant over the passed week or so.
If the picture is any indication, SocialScope, looks like it has added Flickr support. This is in addition to the Facebook integration.
The only reason that I don’t say the SocialScope is hands down the best Twitter client available for the BlackBerry is because it is still in closed beta and not everyone can get it. Since UberTwitter is available to everyone, it currently holds the top spot. We hear, however, that more SocialScope invites are being handed out.
If you haven’t already, sign up for Social Scope. I was fortunate enough to get into the beta, so, I can honestly tell you that SocialScope is s BlackBerry Twitter client that you will want to have.
We’ve got a couple more pics after the jump…

One of my favorite BlackBerry Twitter Clients, SocialScope, is set to get a major update this week. CrackBerry has a list of deets being added:
- Major Upgrade To The UI- Social Scope has always had a “clean” feeling UI and they have taken that one step furtherwith the latest offerings.
- Location Based Search – Need to find people around you Tweeting? Maybe you need to just try and find out where the next bar is that has happy hour–now you can do it.
- Trends Support- Twitter is a social network site. With that a lot of topics are shared, now from within Social Scope you can find out what all the latest hot topics are.
- Biggest News Of All - Social Scope will be adding A LOT more users to the services. Testing has been completed, services can now handle more users, so they will indeed be added.
SocialScope is still in a closed beta and we don’t know if they are opening it up with this update, but, for those of you that have access to the beta, the update looks like it will be impressive. I personally can’t wait.
