After months of anticipation after the first leak of the BlackBerry Stealth, BlackBerry maker, Research in Motion, has officially announced the BlackBerry Pearl, a.k.a, BlackBerry 8100, a.k.a. CameraBerry.
This is the first BlackBerry specifically targeting consumer users. It will be very interesting to see how RIM markets the BlackBerry Pearl now that they officially acknowledge that it exists.

Engadget Mobile has a sneak peak of the BlackBerry Desktop Manager 4.2 that will come out when the BlackBerry Pearl is released.
There is a media manager, as expected, to support the new multimedia features of the next-gen BlackBerry devices and there is a new Switch Device Wizard, which according to BlackBerry insider, Boy Genius, is a godsend. It would appear that not only does the Switch Device Wizard allow you to easily change between BlackBerry devices, but, from Palm Treos and Windows Mobile devices as well.
The Switch Device Wizard will be a welcome addition no matter if you are moving to a BlackBerry Pearl or not…

Have you noticed that we haven’t seen any of those really good PhotoShop renderings of the BlackBerry Pearl like we usually do before a new BlackBerry device gets released?
This is the first time that I can remember that we have been this close to the release of new BlackBerry and someone hasn’t leaked a rendered picture of it. Granted, we have seen plenty of live shots, which, thanks to Boy Genius, hit the message boards long before we would normally see them. I just can’t believe that less than two weeks out we still haven’t seen the PhotoShopped marketing slick photos of the BlackBerry Pearl.

Surely by know you’ve heard that BlackBerry thumb wheel that we have all come to know and love has been replaced by a track ball on the forthcoming BlackBerry Pearl. What you may not have known is that we may not see the thumb wheel again, at least not on the next wave of slim BlackBerry devices like the Pearl.
According to the Boy Genius, the thumb wheel was getting in the way of making BlackBerrys thinner and as you can see from the picture, the BlackBerry Pearl is pretty darn thin. It is actually thinner than a Razr.
Personally I think that this is a great move. I would surely trade my trusty thumb wheel for a track wheel that gives me vertical as well as horizontal motion and cuts the thickness of my device in half. Sounds like a good trade off to me…

Although the still not officially announced release of the BlackBerry Pearl is less than two weeks away, there are still some that just don’t understand why a BlackBerry with a camera is necessary or even think that CameraBerrys are bad ideas.
There is a very vocal few that believe that sticking a camera in a BlackBerry is the worst thing since, allowing your BlackBerry to be used as a Broadband modem, or even putting Bluetooth into BlackBerrys. It’s truly amazing that Research in Motion has more than doubled in size since coming out with the BlackBerry 7100t, the first BlackBerry with Bluetooth, almost two years ago because this feature was supposed to doom the company.
What these naysayers fail to realize is that these are features that BlackBerry users, commercial and consumer alike, want in their devices. The reason that you hear so much from the folks that think innovation is a bad thing as compared to those complaining that features aren’t available is that potential new users that don’t see features that they want, don’t complain on every website, blog, and message board that will listen, they just buy devices that have the features that they want.

According to the Boy Genius Report over on EngadgetMobile, the BlackBerry Pearl will hit T-Mobile shelves Septemeber 12th, almost a full week before the NDA’d announcement stated September 18th.
There are a couple pictures of the T-Mobile BlackBerry Pearl banners that will be hanging in stores on on the next page….

It seems like we have been posting a lot rumors coming from Engadget’s mobile insider and BlackBerry Forums supermoderator Boy Genius lately, however, his word is golden and he has yet another leak on an upcoming BlackBerry model.
Over on Engadgetmobile, the Boy Genius tells us that Research in Motion will most likely have another CameraBerry with a full QWERTY keyboard and WiFi by Christmas. Additionally the new device, which will be called the BlackBerry 8200, will have a faster processor, more RAM, and possibly even an updated camera as compared to the BlackBerry Pearl.
Boy Genius says that RIM is still testing out hardware configurations, however, the BlackBerry 8200 will be about the size of a Motorola Q and black seems to be the front runner as far as colors go.
All that I can say is, “Get us some pictures Boy. We are dying to see what it looks like”.

Over on EngadgetMobile, BoyGenius has posted more pics of the BlackBerry Pearl. I must say that this is, in my opinion, the sleekest looking BlackBerry yet.

BlackBerry Forums supermoderator BoyGenious, the one who first broke news about the BlackBerry Stealth, a.k.a., the BlackBerry 8100, a.k.a., the BlackBerry Pearl, has decided to post some live shots of the RIM’s first CameraBerry that can be found here.
For me, the thing that stands out most is just how thin the BlackBerry Pearl is. There it is on the right next to a Razr and, believe it or not, the Pearl is actually thinner than the Razor.
Now I am sure that a BlackBerry traditionalist or two will read this post and roll their eyes at what I am about to say next, however, for a BlackBerry the Pearl is pretty slick looking as compared to mobile phones in general. This is very important because this device has to have mass appeal to folks who aren’t necessarily looking for a BlackBerry, but a cool cameraphone that it will be easy to send emails from.
