We just wanted to remind everyone that there is a scheduled maintenance tonight (tomorrow morning)  that will leave North American BlackBerry users without BIS access for about four hours as RIM upgrades to BIS 3.0.

Research in Motion has started sending out scheduled maintenance notifications to BlackBerry administrators and carriers in preparation of their roll-out of BIS 3.0 in North America.  BlackBerry users will be without BIS access for about 4 hours.  Dates, times, and details of the planned maintenance are as follows…

BIS 3.0

There has been a lot of conflicting information when it comes to the inclusion of 2-way Gmail Sync in BIS 3.o .  When BIS 3.0 was first announced it was believed that 2-way Gmail sync was going to be included in the update.  More recently, we started hearing that 2-way sync didn’t make it into 3.0.  Now that BIS 3.o is being rolled out in EMEA, it looks like 2-way Gmail Sync isn’t a core piece of the the update, however, an official KB article in the BlackBerry Support Community Forums indicates that the Enhanced Gmail Plugin for BlackBerry will actually include 2-way Gmail Sync.

BIS 3.0

A few weeks ago when BIS 3.0 features were leaked, the rumors pointed to a March release.  Based on an official email from Research in Motion, CrackBerry is reporting that BIS 3.0 is coming on March 21st.

BIS 3.0 Leaked Document

A BlackBerry Internet Service 3.0 PDF was leaked online and it details some interesting new features coming to RIMs non-corporate “Push” email service.   Arguably the biggest feature add is the addition of tw0-way sync to Gmail.

BIS 2.8, even with the Enhance Google Mail plug-in for BlackBerry, only allows for one way synchronization from your BlackBerry to your Gmail account.  Read or delete an email on your BlackBerry and the status change of the message will be reflected in Gmail.  The opposite, however, is not true…
