SimulScribe Is Changing Its Name To PhoneTag

PhoneTagA few weeks ago we did a review of SimulSays, an application and service from SimulScribe which essentially gives you visual voicemail for BlackBerry.

When James Siminoff and Mark Dillon started SimulScribe in 2003 they code named their project “Simultaneous Voicemail Transcription” and shortened it to SimulScribe. Unfortunately, the name they choose really is kind of hard to spell and doesn’t give you any idea what the company is about.

The name SimulScribe totally sucks for our business. People have a real challenge remembering the name and they cannot spell it, which is a real problem considering that new customers need to type in our web address to sign up. When your company offers a consumer product that relies on viral marketing, a difficult name is a really bad thing. In fact, I’m constantly amazed at how well we have been able to do with such a shitty name.

To make a long story short, SimulScribe is changing its name to PhoneTag at 11:59 P.M. EST tonight. If you want to here the story of hey the came up with the name PhoneTag head on over to TechCrunch.

If you haven’t already signed up for your free trial of SimulSays from PhoneTag you can do so here. You can get an extended 30 day trial through our link as compared to the standard one week you get through the site.

And The Dumb BlackBerry User Of The Day Award Goes To…

So, let’s say that you are the lead press advance person for a Mexican delegation meeting with the President of the United States for a meeting at a hotel and before you enter the room where you will meet with arguably the most protected person on the planet, you are asked leave your BlackBerry on a table along with everyone else that is about to enter the room.

My question to you is how dumb would you have to be to think that you could steal six or seven of those BlackBerrys and get away with it without anyone noticing?

Fortunately, we don’t have to wonder about such things… We can just ask Rafael Quintero Curiel, winner of yesterdays Dumb BlackBerry User of the Day award. He knows first hand.

I have just one word for Mr. Curiel…

Dude?

3G BlackBerry 8900 Delayed Until August

BlackBerry 8900Remember the BlackBerry 8900 that was supposed to be coming out on AT&T in June that no one has really made a big deal of because it basically is, from what we’ve heard, just a nicer looking BlackBerry 8800 with 3G that has completely been overshadowed by BlackBerry Curve 8330 news and rumors about the BlackBerry 9000?

Well, AT&T has delayed the release of the BlackBerry 8900 pushing it out as far as August from the planned June launch. A reason hasn’t been given for the delay, however, there is speculation that concerns about call quality is the culprit.

I admit that I am a bit of a Verizon biggot and don’t see this as a huge deal. Not so much because this device isn’t coming out on Verizon, but, because we haven’t really heard of any major enhancements to the OS that would take advantage of the increased speed plus the fact that AT&T’s 3G network only services major metropolitan at the current time.

I should ask the question to AT&T BlackBerry users, however.  Is the delay of the BlackBerry 8900 a big deal?
