What will the Model Number be?

March 22, 2006 by Robb Dunewood 4 Comments

We’ve heard a lot of reliable rumors that T-Mobile will be releasing their branded BlackBerry 8700 here in the U.S. in just a few weeks, however, the jury is still out on what the model number will be.

Will it be the BlackBerry 8700t? Will it be the Blackberry 8700g? We have been asking this question for a while. Looks like we will find out around April 13th for sure.

It will be called 8700g. That’s the name T-Mobile uses in the other countries (Great Britain, Germany) where the device is already launched. I doubt that they will use another name in the U.S.

I think it’s so crazy that RIM would change the 7100g to the 8700c and the 7100t to the 8700g. Of course, the 8700c is more descriptive for knowing that it’s for Cingular. But switching to the 8700g for T-Mobile is really odd!

I agree with you Chris. In fact, with Cellular One (Dobson Cellular) is offering the 8700g as well here in the U.S., the whole thing gets kind of confusing.

Everyone knows that a BlackBerry anything t is from T-Mobile. It doesn’t really make sense to leave that branding by the wayside to go to a designation that is offered by multiple carriers.

That looks exactly like the 8700G I received directly from RIM through my telco provider (i.e., Cingular network).
