As regular RIMarkable readers know, the very mention of the BlackBerry or the iPhone in contrast to the other device sparks heated debate on which device is better. New and regular commentators alike flood the comment section with their opinions on which device is better and who will end up on top when it’s all said and done.
RIMarkable is primarily an editorial… Basically a bunch of opinions on the BlackBerry and other smartphones as they relate to the BlackBerry and we expect and welcome differing opinions. It is nice, however, to know that traditional news sites have the same type of argument happening in the mainstream as well.
Check these two posts out…
I have used a Blackberry Curve 8300 for the past few years. It was time to upgrade and I went with the iPhone 3GS so yes it lured me away. Both phones do have their strong points and ultimately I think that the competition between Apple, RIM and Palm helps all of us in the long run. Do I miss certain things the Curve did better? Sure. Do I find the iPhone handles some things better? Sure. In the end do your research and see which phone meets your needs best. Everyone’s needs are different and I’m glad we have more than 1 option in smartphones.
I have use both and don’t see what t debate about.
iPhone 3GS is the right choice at of this moment.
Hardward:
As for memory and CPU etc, more is better. But need a good balance for heat, speed as well as batter life. If the devise run smoothly, what to complain about, like I am PC ads (It stated 4GB of slow RAM is better than 2GB of fast RAM, because users didn’t know better).
OS:
For today standard, BlackBerry is terrible. It is slow and crash a lot. iPhone does not run background software? Big deal, yeah right! I rather to have a BlackBerry runs no background application than it always lags and crashes.
3rd Party Software:
iPhone is more superior and there a lot of them. Can anyone actually telling me the have more fun with BlackBerry (any BlackBerry) than iPhone? If so, like what? Creating new applications for BlackBerry by porting or copying ideas from iPhone App Store? (Actually, it is a great idea!! But be warned, developer beware that you may have to create multiple version for different flavor of BlackBerry and maintain/support each of them.)
Appearance:
Call me bias, I like iPhone. Could be smaller size, bigger screen, lighter weight, thinner case, oh wait, we are comparing with BlackBerry, they are just about the same. Or iPhone is better, I mean the screen. Haha..
Easy to Use:
Other than the Qwert keyboard, I don’t see what other advantage of BlackBerry. In that case, may be we should get a Pre, why BlackBerry?
Finally, business usage:
BlackBerry does support business better than iPhone today. However, there is another key point: Why company want their employees to have fun. Employees should spend time on working, checking e-mails, replying e-mails, doing boring stuff. iPhone can do too many fun thing and easy to use. Employee won’t be working as hard using iPhone.
Carrier:
That’s has nothing to do with iPhone. It is Apple and AT&T. It also not applicable to the rest of the world as some countries does not allow have exclusive carrier.
Lets also remember AT&T has the most Blackberry devices in the US on their network so all the AT&T bad mouthing is nothing but crap talk.
As for the “fun” factor, there are serious app’s which are available for the iPhone which will never be available for the BB. It would be completely wrong to think those with iPhone’s are for what ever reason not working as hard as BB users.
Device for device the iPhone is more state of the art, it’s a handheld computer. The BB offers push email from a single NOC with has shown itself to be a weak link, the iPhone hold’s it’s own with it’s email and exchange based email. IMO the iPhone has pretty much taken the wind out of BB’s one killer app.
When has RIM sold 1Million+ devices in their first three days of being on sale? This is not the first iPhone device which has done this. The iPhone has proven itself in both the personal and corporate markets.
With Apple, RIM, and Google competing we all win.
The success of both platforms is not mutually exclusive.
Same arguments, same BS. This, being typed from my Pre. 🙂
