Rim since this non-exclusive release is being tested why not go 100% and also start release non-branded, unlocked Blackberry’s?
What’s with the cross posting Rock?
RIM isn’t in the direct business. Their customer is the carrier. This kind of disruption alienates their customer, period. Common sense business knowledge. Idealism doesn’t build a business.
I’m going to give the Sprint version a whirl. Not the greatest network, but certainly one of the best plans. Going to test it out side-by-side and see if it can hold its own.
“RIM isn’t in the direct business.” Why not? In some ways they are, in other ways they should be more so. It should be a option. For many reasons including getting the best BB devices out to it’s customers and making sure the customers are taken care of with timely device software updates AND to keep the Blackberry App store and as Apple has proven it can do much better controlling the hardware and the app store and letting the carrier do what they do, provide service. Besides the other manufactures also sell direct too.
For someone to make such a bold statement usually they have the facts instead of claiming something yet reality showing otherwise.

Buying from Research In Motion
The BlackBerry® Pearl™ 8120, BlackBerry®™ Curve 8320 and BlackBerry® 8820 smartphones can be purchased through Research In Motion (RIM). To learn more or to purchase, please contact BlackBerry® Sales by phone at 1-800-327-9085 or by email at sales@blackberry.com.
So yes indeed RIM does sell some devices direct, most likely ones which won’t upset previous carrier agreements. However as a RIM and Blackberry fan it’s clear RIM would be much better off having the option of also selling it’s BB’s unlocked and unbranded at unsubsidized prices for those who chose to buy that way. Others will still buy through the carriers. Rim needs to take more control of the devices when it comes to software changes and updates.
Nothing will hurt the four orifices in the US by Smartphone manufactures having more control over the devices and the App Stores which go hand in hand with those devices. The service providers are just that service providers and can make good money doing so without all doing all the current crap that they feel they need to do.
What’s good for the hardware manufactures, and customers might not always be good for the service providers, as Apple has proven most are loyal to the device manufacture, as verizon has learned the hard way.
“The iPhone product is something we are happy we aren’t the first to market with,” – Denny Strigl’s lie back in January 2007.
-or-
“Apple was never likely to create an iPhone suitable for Verizon’s existing network simply because its choice of the CDMA standard for phone calls limited what could be done. While CDMA and its matching EVDO data format are very popular among carriers in North America and are shared with Alltel, Bell, Sprint and Telus (among others), the standards have very little reach outside of the continent. Choosing CDMA may have forced Apple to make a second iPhone model just to accommodate the rest of the world, which has settled on the more popular GSM and HSPA protocols. Saying it is more likely that Apple would be willing to work with the carrier under the fourth-generation, or 4G, network, which follows the same technology standard as AT&T Inc.’s 4G plans.” – Ivan Seidenberg admitting the truth 4/2009
“For someone to make such a bold statement usually they have the facts instead of claiming something yet reality showing otherwise.” – seriously, this is the reason why you get abused. You look for a fight with anyone…this time not even with me.
I’m done with you, and I’m done with the site. If the site is going to be littered with you’re dumb angles vs. anyone who either disagrees with you or has a different angle, you become defensive and obliterate us with all your stupid iPhone propaganda. I can’t even read a thread without all your COPY AND PASTE crap.
You’ve destroyed my interest in the site. And I’ll tell you this, if it was my site, your IP address would be banned. No room for stupidity if you can’t play nice in the sand box.
Good luck Robb…he’s all yours now.

I’m done with you, and I’m done with the site”
Goodbye! Thanks for the final personal attack post and also the proof you don’t even honor your own word (again). The clouds have lifted fro Rimarkable, the sun is shining and it’s almost like superstar MJ singing “A Brand New Day”

For Robb’s sake, I vow to end.”
Smart, considerate people understand a web site is for all to give their opinions and those opinions can be ignored or learned from. Then sadly there are those who are reminded constantly of this, reminded not to turn things around and make personal comments. Insead decide they need to post to gain attention when they read something which they can’t handle. Lucky Rimarkable is better for allowing everyone to post their opinions. What needs to stop is the childish personal attacks. You know exactly what is being talked about and it’s hardly just Rimarkable where your playing your games.
Not Cool.
Sorry to see you go blue…
@ The Rock,
You should seriously listen to your own words:
“Smart, considerate people understand a web site is for all to give their opinions and those opinions can be ignored or learned from.”
Be smart and considerate and try not to pick a fight with everyone who has a differing opinion than you.
Think of Blackberry Tour as the Storm with the 8900 screen (smaller than the Bold but higher resolution), and the Bold keyboard (slightly shrunk to fit the phone size) and some minor cosmetic changes. From the videos we have seen the bask of the inside looks exactly the same as the Storm.
Sprint and Palm did a great job getting the words out there on the palm pre, verizon and rim needs to step up and spend some money on advertising this blackberry tour, what you guys think?
