Research in Motion has issued a very long response to the NTP patent case ruling handed down earlier today by U.S. Appeals Court Judge James Spencer. You can read read the response in it’s entirety here. The response is quite long and although it is not written in legal jargon, for the most part anyway, it is not the easiest read, therefor, I have decided to translate it in to plain English.

Remember, I am not lawyer nor do I play one on TV so my interpretation may be completely off base and more likely than not is not founded in fact at all. That being said, here goes…

The court ruled against us today and it really sucks because we are probably going to have to settle this thing and it is going to cost us an arm and a leg to do so. We are still going to try to send this to the Supreme Court but the chances of that happening are slim to none. If we are lucky, and believe me when I tell you that we are due for some good luck, the DOJ will make enough noise to buy us some time while the Patent and Trademark office Office do their thing.
