Research in Motion is scheduled to report its first quarter results for fiscal 2006 after market close today. RIM is expected to make a profit of 55 cents per share in Q1 as compared to 36 cents per share in Q1 of fiscal 2005. Profit for the year is forecast at $2.49 for the year as compared to $2.10 last year.
Analysts expect RIM will continue to increase sales and add subscribers, but they remain cautious that Microsoft Corp. could pose a competitive threat with its new Windows operating system for handheld devices and cellphones. Those concerns could weigh on the stock during the second half of 2005, said RBC Dominion Securities Inc.
