In case you haven’t already heard the news, Research in Motion and Sprint have officially announced the BlackBerry Style 9670, RIM’s first BlackBerry Flip Phone with a full QWERTY Keyboard. One thing that you can say about the Style is that it is a polarizing device. Most people fall into the love it or hate it it with a passion category without much in between. Comments here on RIMarkable have been fairly negative towards the Style, but, I concede that more people are likely to comment when they don’t like something compared to when they do.
We figured that we would try to get a better sampling of people’s opinion of the BlackBerry Style, and, what better way to do that than with a poll…
It’s nice… But they should have concentrated on having a holiday release of a touchscreen BlackBerry for Verizon with OS 6.0… If they would of done that then I yeah I can see alot of people getting this. But holiday shopping season is more of the high end phone season. This seems to be like the new work horse for alot of businesses. They will sell TONS of them. The good news is most people like doing email and web… With the new browser it can do that well. Unlike the BlackBerry Flip which had that POS 5.0 browser.
Solid release for the lower end market.
Purely my opinion from talking with non-techie friends. I think at this point in the game, if it’s not touchscreen, nobody cares. Yes, they like the device they have now, but if you tell them it’s a new blackberry, the first question is “is it touchscreen” or “when will the one on AT&T come to ___” and that is it. Yeah, they may sell this (even the Pearl Flip sold somewhere), but not what many want for their upgrade.
I agree that most people want a touch screen now days. But I don’t think that matters for RIM’s bottom line right now…
OS 6 with touch is fairly good… So, I think if they would just make all their top devices touch they might have something till QNX takes over…
But to miss the holiday season without a new touchscreen on Verizon is an epic fail…
Whoever messed that up should be fired!
I feel bad because I do like the Torch…. I am torn… I would get it, if it was on Verizon… But the slower processor and screen resolution gives me some pause. But I love the BlackBerry UI and it just makes sense to me. But I am planning on taking the Droid Plunge… I will come back to BlackBerry next year if there is a touch screen with a modern OS… But by that time they better have QNX out because their classic OS won’t make me want to switch back!
Buddy You should at least test drive it you may like it you save with Sprint too and they will give you full 30 days full refund of everything! No I don’t work for them lol just feel like people arent giving this device a chance & I guess im campaigning for it!!
@Brian…….”But to miss the holiday season without a new touchscreen on Verizon is an epic fail…” & “Whoever messed that up should be fired!”
It maybe too late. With current management, RIM is not going to be competitive with Google/Apple in the long run.
I hope this phone proves the naysayers wrong, which Ill say it again. It’s those who don’t like the flip clamshell factor pretty much period! Im sure things will be found wrong with it like in every phones review after it’s released. But me personally & to squash stereotypes (gotta love those) no Im not a girl and im not that “old” in my thirties lol. I have so been looking forward to this phone. It’s everything I would have designed in a tidy package of a flip which is easiest to talk on yes people still do that. Even though I do message more myself. Anyway the Lotus did well & this has apps, wifi, full qwerty good cam w flash and it’s looking better then in previous pics. Ok Im done rambling but I do hope this revives the flip niche as the press release said 100 million out of approx 250 million still use them!! Go Style hopefully will be a new series success!! Not everyone wants a 5inch touchscreen!!
They should have added “out of” before “style.” Jim Balsillie’s desire to buy a hockey team carried over into the phone design, because it looks like a hockey puck when closed.
RIM, you’re killing me.
I’m not a big fan of the tocu screen and was very excited to get the style. But I’ve only had it for 1 month and is already on my second one. I have to do a battery pull atleast twice per day to rectify the ongoing problems associated with this phobe which ranges from frozen screens to no audio (no ring tone, no speaker sound) to hot battery. Also the location of the camera makes taking pics awkward. The picture quality sucks also :o( still I’m hanging on and hope I can get a replacement phone that will be much better- maybe I’m just a sucker for punishment cause this phone has really worked my last nerve
This phone is a whole lot better than I xpected the pics r awesome the call qality is great right along with the key board I agree the camera placement was stupid but mine doesn’t have any of the problems yours does its Probably just those 2 phones
You are not alone. I have to do the same thing constantly. My pictures in my album play hide and seek. Sometimes i can see them and sometime theyre gone and i have to do a reboot of my phone. what a huge disappointment. I have buyer remorse for sure. I used to be a huge Blackberry fan. They will be losing me soon……..
I upgraded from my Blackberry Curve to the Samsung Epic. After three weeks the newness and intrigue had worn off and I was tired of how large it was and how horrible the battery life was. I traded it in for the new Style. I’ve had this awesome little flip phone for three weeks now and I have to say, I love this phone. It’s everything I was used to and so much more. I love the new operating system. The browser is unbelievable fast. While I had the Epic, there were several things I missed on my blackberry. Now that I’ve gone back to blackberry-there is nothing I miss about the Epic. I don’t even miss the touch screen. The camera on this phone is every bit as good as the Epic. My music sounds better on my Style than it did on the Epic. The size suits me totally. I love that I won’t be scratching the screen–no matter where I decide to carry my phone. I also like the size of the screen. It’s more private than the Android was. The battery life is amazing. Blackberry is a solid devise that delivers reliability. I’ll stay with Blackberry.
Well I’ve had my Style BB for a month now. It continually freezes up and it has also stopped ringing. It will vibrate only now for incoming calls. Junk phone, buyer beware!!!
Now that I have looked it up online, it appears many BB owners are dealing with the same issue across multiple different Black Berry phones. Do your research folks so youre not disappointed.
