I know that this news doesn’t have anything to do with the BlackBerry, however, it is a huge deal as far as tech news is is concerned so we thought that we would mention it.
Pretty much everyone is reporting on this so check out it out…

Buying Yahoo! stock now…
Yesterday would have been the day to buy it. It is up over 50% in after hours.
Google has taken a pretty hefty dip by on the news. I think it will be a pretty good day for tech.
I hope not. I love my flickr, delicious and other accounts. I can’t see them becoming convoluted Microsoft/Yahoo Windows Live Photo Flickr Account Elite and any other variations of naming which requires IE to get the best experience having all my websites blocked if I use some other browser.
Google is down because they fell short on the earnings call yesterday compared to street estimates, down 8 percent in after hours yesterday. While I’m not a fan of Microsoft, it’s a good move if it does happen for both companies. It gives Yahoo the financial power to grow, develop, and compete with Google, and gives Microsoft a group that is better suited and experienced to do battle with Google.
This will be interesting to see how it plays out.
Robb,
In a way it does have something to do with BB. Yahoo email has a direct push, unlike hotmail to my BB (they started doing this with TMO). Wonder if that would be affected down the road if the buyout ever takes place. Hmmm….that would suck.
That would really hurt Yahoo Mail if they ever stopped offering Push email simply because Google offers it. If MicroHoo stops offering BlackBerry Push they may Push (pun intended) Yahoo Mail subscribers right over to GMail.
I’ve had the same Yahoo account going all the way back to RocketMail since like 1996. I don’t know if I would cancel my account, however, I would absolutely use GMail to log in and pull mail over so that I could continue to get it pushed to my BlackBerry.
I really hope that Yahoo keeps using push email. Guess we’ll see…
RIM might be next….

Microsoft to Buy RIM in response to Google and Apple?
According to Arstechnica and Reuters:
Amid renewed rumors of an impending buyout by Microsoft, stock in Research In Motion (RIM), the company that produces the BlackBerry line of push e-mail devices, has surged up to an all-time high of $85. According to a story from Reuters, the two companies may be engaged in discussions that could see Microsoft grabbing up the Canadian-based company outright…
Some analysts are saying that the move is in response to Google’s announcement that it is developing a mobile phone running a Linux-based operating system. Others point to the success of the iPhone (and the interest, if not yet the actual software, in integrating it into business environments). These two players may make the smartphone industry much more competitive.
Microsoft cooking up some BlackBerry pie?

Good luck and goodbye to both Yahoo and RIM when micro$haft swings in and buys them up.
Highly unlikely (and that link is from 8/31/07). MS is busy pushing their own OS, and highly doubt they want to enter the HW arena. Aside from the XBox and Zune, MS has basically stayed clear from the HW side of the sector because SW makes the $$$. The only reason I could see MS buying RIM is to stop selling their devices and making them go away. But why pay all that money for them and do Google a favor at the same time? Don’t see it happening.
And MS is looking to borrow cash to buy Yahoo? Hmmm…what’s up with that?
Interesting…..
“Global giants including Apple Inc. and Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. are considering rival bids for the internet search icon Yahoo, which has received a $44.6 billion offer from Microsoft, the Scotsman http://business.scotsman.com/business/Microsoft-to-face-rivals-in.3738732.jp is reporting.”

“Recent figures show that Google dominates 66% of the global web search market. Yahoo and Microsoft are leagues behind with just 13% and 4% of the market respectively.”
