I just heard that the BlackBerry Network might be experiencing data outages so I popped open TweetDeck, did a search for BlackBerry, and, low and behold, there are about a bazillion people saying that they can’t send and recieve email.
Nothing seems to be affecting me or any of the folks within 50 feet or so that I just asked if their BlackBerrys were getting mail so I thought I’d toss the question out… Is the BlackBerry network experiencing a data outage?
http://blog.dataoutages.com/2009/02/02/texas-area-outage-020209/
I have not been able to send or receive emails for a few hours. Located in NYC.
OK…
It looks like AT&T has been having some type of Data Outage since just before noon CST today. This isn’t exactly a BlackBerry outage, however, BlackBerry users on AT&T are definitely affected.
(By the way… Twitter is Freaking Amazing!)
Just got off the phone with Verizon, they are saying it’s a blackberry server issue, not Verizon…and it’s not effecting everyone. No emails since noon in Philly.
My Storm is receiving emails fine in Ohio.
No email notifications or sending since about Noon in Milwaukee. Provider: US Cellular
Correction: I am able to send email messages from Blackberry, but am not receiving notifications. Milwaukee, US Cellular
No email in DC. Verizon.
can send, but not receive email on Verizon BB
No BB email for several hours. ATT is my carrier. Any news on what is happening?
No email since 9AM in Northern CA
I’m at&t in Ohio and I can’t send or receive since the mid-morning hours.
Can’t send or receive any e-mail at all. Have not received any e-mail after noon mountain time. BIS service on Verizon from Aspen, CO.
Been Emailing all day in Saint Louis.
Sprint Blackberry…can send emails but haven’t received any since around 11am est here in Michigan.
Cannot send or receive emails since just before noon CST in Chicago- BB8830 on verizon- but several of my coworkers can- and several others cannot.
Haven’t reveived any emails on my BB Bold since around noon in Worcester, MA (AT&T).
Here we go again. So much for Balsillie’s statement that it wouldn’t happen again, and again, and again, and again. Not sure the future includes the bottle neck problem known as the BB NOC.
“RIM CEO says BlackBerry shutdown “won’t happen again”; BlackBerry addicts yell “it better not!”
by Conrad Quilty-Harper, posted May 13th 2007 at 10:08PM
We know, we know, you’re still shaking from the “BlackBerry blackout” the other month: fortunately, the co-CEO of RIM Jim Balsillie feels your shakes. In an interview with eWeek, Jim let the company’s customers know that a blackout on a similar scale as April’s outage will not happen again. As we know, the cause of the outage was insufficient testing, and Jim now admits that it was “completely avoidable,” which probably isn’t the best way to boost confidence.”
Very odd…I’m getting mail normally on one Gmail account, and on another Gmail account (both routed to the same Verizon 8330) I can’t send or receive. I’ve had problems since at least 9am this morning PST (I’m in Los Angeles).
Good in Texas all day.
The Rock…LOL!
Sprint 8330 out since this afternoon.
Network wide issues.
I’ve been able to get emails fine on my Storm from northern Delaware.
Issues here in RC area only getting a few emails as of his morning. 3 out of 7 maybe.
Sending and Receiving emails as normal here in NY on the Storm (Verizon).
I have sprint and currently can send and receive emails. In philly.
Was able to get emails overnight, but nothing again this morning…I was able to resend service books though recently.
Any update Robb?
I’ve been getting emails all day. I’m in Austin and have Verizon.
No updates other than some BlackBerry users are still down. It is simply amazing how bad RIM is at letting people know that they are having a problem.
Everything is fine with mine. I’m in Toronto.
Well, data services are down where I’m at via AT&T. Too bad I’m not near WiFi to use this piece of plastic.
And when I say useless piece of plastic, I’m redering to the iPhone.
Self-deception is still alive and well right here at rimarkable. One would think a claimed poweruser who claims his BB with verizon isn’t having any problems wouldn’t need to use his 3G iPhone to GIT-R-DONE. But instead adds yet more self-deception and name calling to the device he truly knows is much more reliable and advanced.

@ The Rock
Are you kidding me? I know you’re hellno, but are you really that much in love with your phone? I’m reporting what I’m dealing with (unlike your bias), and if the phone doesn’t work, no matter what make or provider, it’s a piece of useless plastic (you’re personally upset I called the iPhone a piece of useless plastic? LOL…unreal). It shows that while RIM can go down, so can a provider, thus making a device useless on their service. What good is wireless if I’m not near a wireless connection? Pro’s and con’s to everything.
I think you received one too many hits to the head by your own elbow. Unreal…
It’s even worse than we thought. Disillusioned, self-deception is even more alive and well right here at rimarkable. Even more interesting is the thread is about the data outages of the BB network and somehow it’s turned around to taking lame shots at other devices.
Yet still no official notification from RIM? Seems RIM is regressing back a few years when most subscribers affected by the outage learned of it through the news media. Where is Jim Balsillie making more claims like “The blackberry outage will never happen again”? Or his other recent gem “Buggy Smartphone Software Is The “New Reality”?
“E-mail sent to and from BlackBerry phones in North America all goes through a Network Operations Center. It appears the problem occurred there, (Feb 2008) when one of two Internet addresses that relay e-mail from corporate servers stopped responding, according to Zenprise, a Fremont, Calif., company that helps companies troubleshoot BlackBerry problems.
“Any time you got a system that’s got a NOC, a Network Operations Center, you have the potential for a single point of failure,” said Jack Gold, with technology analyst firm J.Gold Associates in Northborough, Mass.
“What’s a bit surprising to me is that with all the work they’ve been doing over time … that they haven’t been able to have enough redundancy in the NOC so that there isn’t a single point of failure,” said Gold, who has done business with RIM.”

@ Rock/Retard/hellno, etc.
Tell someone who gives a sh*t.
What’s up with the name calling and cursing? No need to be upset, no one (but you) is posting to/at someone. The Rock knows taking lame shots is poor behavior.
Try to be more like the Rock aka The Most Electrifying Man In Sports Entertainment and relax, your BB data issues are no reason to make nasty posts to others or make deceptive bogus claims.
Here is the new ad campaign btw http://www.blackberry.com/lifeonblackberry/
lost texting about 3pm but no other issues, sending and receiving email on all 4 accounts on BB storm, internet access not affected, verizon is provider metro los angeles
