I am in the market for a really, really good Bluetooth Headset. I currently have a Plantronics Discovery 645 that I absolutely love and am seriously thinking about just moving up to the Plantronics Discovery 655 or possibly the BlackBerry branded version of the 655 (if it doesn’t cost too much more).
I figured, however, that this would be a good time to ask RIMarkable readers what Bluetooth headsets you swear by. I tend to like headsets with ear buds or gels and sound canceling technology like DSP is a must. I need to be able to hear and be heard in noisy airports and other public places with lots of background noise.
If you have or know of a headset that fits the bill, leave us a mini review in the comments.
I’ve always wanted to try those Oakley glasses that double as a bluetooth headset.
I’ve seen those before and thought, cool, but, not all that practical. I litterally wear my headset 8 to 12 hours per day. There are just too many situations where throwing on a pair of sun glasses just so that you can talk on the phone isn’t convienient.
I recommend the Jawbone Bluetooth headset. I’ve been using mine since they launched a number of weeks back and love it. Great sound and extremely successful at filtering out background noise detecting only my voice during calls. Sometimes it works too well as I discovered during a weekly conference call. I was speaking while driving and no other calls could hear the background noise of the stereo or pavement.
I admit that some users may not find them comfortable. Fortunately, my ears welcome the minimalist ear-hook quite fine. I recommend borrowing one from a friend or checking one out in person.
A vote for the expensive but worth-it Jabra JX10 — small and works like a polished charm with my 8700c. Very good battery life, good range of reception, comfortable (not like having padlock clipped to your ear) and easy operation (1 button to answer, +/- buttons for volume). . . so small that I worry I’ll misplace or lose it. I don’t think its ever dropped a call on me. I don’t like the ear clip, which has a tendency to pop off, so I use an ear gel and that works fine. I may have had an echo or two but I’m not sure it was related to the BT headset.
Mark,
I had a JX10 for about a month before I got my Plantronics 645. I liked it, however, the ear clip broke.
I swear by my little samsung wep-200 headset. I bought it on a whim, as i was traveling for work and forgot my other one at home. Soon my old one just started collecting dust. This thing has great quality, battery life, range, and a stupendous charging system, unlike anything else I have seen. The headset goes in its tiny “casket”, then the charger plugs into that. Its very slick and that casket is a wonderful protection, and its soo small its comfortable enough to just throw in your pocket without having a bulge.
I agree with Eric i have the samsung wep-200 bt headset and i’m coming from having at least 10 bt headsets in the past year and i’ve never been happier the only feature i believe its missing is the caller id screen on the headset itself which in truth is only useful if u only use ur headset occasionaly daily cause if ur a heavy or frequent user it’ll be on ur ear at most times and then u might as well simply look at ur phone screen rather than having to remove the headset from ur ear but either way this headset has everything i mean were talking great battery life quick charging good features such as vol control and answer/end calls as well as others it also has the noise filtering which i found to work pretty well and the size of this thing is amazing this headset is so small i’m scared i might once have it in my pants pocket and sit on it and crush the tiny thing its so small u need to put it in a small box to charge it which is kinda good since it keeps it from getting scratches or dust while charging all in all this headset has been my best bt headset so far!
I bought a Jawbone a few weeks ago. It is the first really good headset that I have found. Try it.
Just got my Plantronics 665! Think this is the latest model from Plantronics.
If you already like the feel handling and size of your 645, you will feel right at home with this.
Sound clarity is extremely good, even in noisy and low signal areas the quality of audio is still apparant. It automatically adjusts volume and has much improbed DSP over the 645 for reducing background noise for both the called and the receiving end.
I have read some bad reviews on Jawbone, where although it does have superior noise reduction, it does not handle changing noise types without loosing your voice signal. Jaqbone is inedded suited for someone working in a night club or heavy machinery plant though. Jawbone, also is alot bigger than your existing 645.
