OK RIMarkable readers. I need your opinions and reviews of bluetooth headsets. My old Plantronics Discovery 645 has served me well, however, the darn thing just won’t hold a charge any longer. It’s time to get something new. What is the best Bluetooth headset out there right now?
Drop us a comment and tell us what headsets you like and, more importantly, which ones you don’t like.
Moto’s are good – but make sure you get one with a usb style charge plu. The others have problems with the connections and often won’t charge.

Servaas
I have the Nokia BH-800, and I have to say it is the best BT headset I have ever used.
The Blueant Z9 is the way to go, works flawlessly with my 8830 and is very sleek.
I’ve been using the Jawbone for a couple of weeks now and pretty pleased with the quality. The noise cancellation system works well.
Jawbone….my first and impressed!
you’ve got it there… Jawbone. I’ve had mine for 4 months and love it. Even people I call say the Jawbone has better voice quality then the 8130’s normal phone function… CNET even rates it well.
I have had a Jabra BT-250 and the Aliph Jawbone. Although I really like both, I lean towards the Jawbone. It does a really good job, the noise canceling is great, and it fits my ear very well – much better than the Jabra. Plus it just looks cool (for a headset.)
i like my jawbone, i have to re-order a couple of the ear pieces for it though because the ones that fit me best have broken.
I have a vzw branded Jabra VBT185Z that came with my Pearl 8130. It’s my first ever bluetooth headset and I really like it. I know it’s not top of the line, but it performed better than I expected.
This Combination:
Jawbone & http://www.averysound.com/as.jawbone.html
I love my Motorola H700. Works great with voice activated calling, great volume, callers never even know I’m using a BT headset. I got mine for under $40 on VZW’s merits site. Amazon also has ’em cheap.
It sounds like the Jawbone is pretty popular. The only bad thing I’ve heard about them is that the ear buds aren’t comfortable for everyone. Marc Fogel’s combination may solve that problem however.
I think the apple bt headset is the best – and it works really well with Blackberry.
Try the Plantronics Discovery series…works very well with the pearl 8100/8120! “fit in ear” allows for good hearing and small size.
Jabra BT-250 – Huge and loud but looks ugly. Don’t know if it is because not Bluetooth 2.0, it is not so clear.
Plantronics 220 – Small and slick but not as loud. It works well but not in noisy place. May be it is Bluetooth 2.0, it is very clear.
No money to buy another headset with noise cancellation feature. I bet is works better in a noisy place.
The Jawbone is great, no question but the person on the other end does complain that the audio is tinny and can certainly tell I am on a headset as a result. Also not very comfortable, for me, for long wear.
The Plantronics 655 has excellent sound on both ends and callers can’t tell I’m on a headset. Also very comfortable. Of course like most other headsets, the microphone is omnidirectional so picks up ambient noise. I particularly like the fact that this unit can be charged with my Curve and a spare battery in the dock sold by BB.
OK…Jawbone…Had it and didn’t like it. No matter how I configured it, it was never secure. Plus, the sound was very tinny. However, if I worked with a jackhammer, I would use it because the noise cancellation, while overkill for day to day, is the only thing on the market that can get a clear (if tinny) voice through the noise. Like any BT headset, though, it doesn’t work well in wind.
Had a few motos…OK, i guess, but not great. Had a Sony Ericcson HBV-GV435. Loved it for a while but after about 6 months, I started noticing static. COuld wear it all day though and many people didn’t even notice it.
Of course, I had the AX2. Good sound but bad voice.
Had the Plantronics 510 and loved it before it got crushed by my Iaptop.
I was going to pick up the Blue Ant Z9 but took a flier on the Plantronics 520 and it is without a doubt the best I’ve ever had. It is an unispired design, so many will not want it because it isn’t the latest and greatest, but my opinion is that Plantronics is the only headset company to consider and the 520 is my fav. They have some nice units above that but I have no experience with them Anyway, my 8830 loves my 520.
So here we go. I’ve tried about every headset on the market. Where to start
with this is difficult. So lets go with the headset I believe to be the best.
If you’re looking for noise reduction, nothing comes close to the Jawbone, period. People hear you clearly. The phone hears and interprets the words you speak so
well that when you use the voice commands function it rarely if ever makes a
mistake (names or numbers).
There are a few features you have to sacrifice;
-auto redial (from the headset)
-call waiting (will work if you use the “send button” on the phone)
-an inconvenient way to raise and lower the sound volume on the headset
Another vote for the Blueant Z9. Its much smaller than the ostentatious looking Jawbone, and it generally works very well. Sometimes there’s a little problem with volume, but it is comfortable and dependable, and has a setting you use when you’re talking in a crowded room. It also allows you to upgrade the firmware, although its a little complicated. Very good battery life and nice people to deal with, if you have to.
Been using a Plantronics 510 for well over a year and love it.
Been using the Jabra BT-250 and no complaints. I like the fact that it hides itself behind the ear. Walking around looking like a cyborg just invites people for comments.
JAWBONE – the difference is amazing!
Had a Motorola H500, then a Jabra BT500, and now a Plantronics Voyager 510. Love the 510, works great, my favourite of those that I have had, but is a little loud when used in the car (for people on the receiving end of a call)…
I have just ordered a Sound ID SM100 – hoping that the noise cancellation is as good as people say it is…
I have been very happy with the BlueAnt Z9 I got a few months back.
Jawbone
love the Jawbone noise cancellation for the caller on the other end of the call – but the max volume on my end is no good in a noisy environment. After collecting a museum of BT headsets, I’ve given up gone back to wired headset earpiece.
Hi,
Just go for Motorola H700.
It’s the smallest lightest bluetooth headset with very good battery life
talk time approx 2 – 2.5 hrs
using for more than year, and very satisfied
Cardo Systems S-800. Batteries last longer than my BB 8700. Can be paired with 3 devices (phone, PC, notebook). Has tons of features. noise reduction, wind reduction, etc. Multiple LEDS for missed calls, power levels of the batteries. A bunch of other stuff including hot dialing.
Jawbone. No brainer.
moto H700 has mini usb chargin port
no need to carry seprate charger
flip open and it automatically connects to the handset
flip close and it automatically disconnects from the handset
very good standby of three days and talk time of 2 -2.5 hrs
I’ve used the Apple iPhone headset for a bit with my 8310 and it works great. It’s the first headset that I can truly say I forget it’s there, it’s so light, small and unobtrusive.
I’m rating the Jabra JX10 at the moment. Nice, very small, good battery and works well with the voice activated dialing on my BlackBerry. Top headset.
@ BBAdmin
You may be on to something there…based on the web page for the headset, it does a little more than just connect to the phone…connects to ‘other’ devices as well it seems. See the picture at the top.

I’ve tried the JX10 from Jabra, and it worked pretty well, but it was not comfortable and would tend to flap whenever you walked or moved your head. The connection port for the recharger was a real p.i.t.a. and started to fall apart because I had to force it in.
Has anyone tried the Jabra 8040? It looks small and lightweight, but I worry it might fall out of my ear, which was a problem with a similalry-designed Samsung I had awhile back. One other feature of the Blueant Z9 is that it has a built in clip that allows me to attach it to my shirt pocket or collar.
The Jawbone is by far the best bluetooth headset I have used to date
I loved my Motorola headset until I accidentally ruined it.
I didn’t like the Jabra BT-125 much because it kept falling off, and now it’s lost. I think I will get another Motorola for the comfort.
The Jawbone is a pretty popular headset but sometimes is not the most comfortable. There are replacement Jabra Mini-gels that you can get from Gammoth for a descent deal … as far as headsets go …. I’ve had really good experience with the Motorola MotoPURE H12. Great comfort, good sound quality and reasonably priced. You can check out product reviews all over the place for the different headsets people are saying, try cnet.com for reviews or blog.gammoth.com and they have some good reviews too. Good luck!
Thanks for all the input. I decided to go with the Jawbone. As many people have indicated, the earpiece isn’t all that comfortable so I bought a pack of Jabra ear gels that fit on the Jawbone and in my ear perfectly.
