Gizmodo has the deets on the BlackBerry Pearl 2 rumored to hit an EV-DO network sometime in Q4.
Other than the high-speed EV-DO network, the BlackBerry Pearl 2 will be nearly 8mm thinner than the BlackBerry Pearl currently available as well as weigh 30% less. The Pearl 2 will also have a 2.0 megapixel digital camera up from 1.3 MP in the current model.
Even with the BlackBerry Curve being out, the BlackBerry Pearl 2 is the ideal device for me as I love the form factor and have been a fan of SureType since day one. I just wish that it wouldn’t take Verizon a year to actually get a version of the Pearl.
Yes! I hope the new one can record video as well!
i will have already left verizon by then…too little too late
thanks
Not sure why CDMA gets 3G radios in their bbs and GSM gets nothing…
I am not a pearl fan…when is the curve coming to T-Mobile…thats all i care about!
Don’t bother with the curve. I work for att and the curve was so abrubtly distributed, you’ll be disappointed with the results. Picture the 8800 without built in GPS, add a camera, save money by using cheaper materials and you’ve got the 8300 (curve). The device even feels cheap in your hands. Save your money for the 8800 or simply stick with the pearl.
Jon, that’s what I thought when I saw and tried the Curve at a store….I wanted to have a bigger screen, better camera and just a newer version of BB but I could not give away my new pearl for the curve… Why they could make the curve cheap looks and many people don’t care…?
So Robb, here’s a question for you: if the Pearl 2 were to come out soon, would it be enough for you to hold off getting the iPhone?
As for the Curve, I’ve tried it out in a store and it seemed very solid to me, and definitely better build quality than the 8800. The Curve is small and light, but don’t confuse that with lack of quality. Of course, this was just one unit in one store, and trying it out for a short period of time, so others may have a different experience.
Sounds good to me. Has anyone reported on the new http://mobile.blackberry.com site yet? I see it has been updated!
Good question Thought. The BlackBerry Pearl 2, quite honestly, may be the perfect device for me as I have been wanting a Sure Type CDMA BlackBerry with a camera since the BlackBerry Pearl was still commonly refered to as the Stealth. I can tell you, however, that even if Verizon were giving away free BlackBerry Pearl 2 devices in front of my local Apple Store on June 28th, I would still be in line to get an iPhone on June 29th.
I believe that many die-hard BlackBerry users just like I will, are going to get an iPhone in addition to to their beloved Blackberrys no matter what.
I may have overdoesed on the the Steve Jobs Kool-Aid, however, unless someone comes out with a site to site transporter, I think that the iPhone will be the undisputed gadget of the year without a close number 2.
I was just wondering, but why do you guys love sure type so much? i cant stand it, lol.
Left verizon as well.

Eric,
Since the BlackBerry 7100T came out there have been two and only two camps when it comes to SureType. Thoses who love it and those who hate it. I haven’t found anyone who says SureType is OK.
Personally, I like the form factor that you get with the SureType devices. I don’t wear my BlackBerry on my belt, but, put it into my pockect and even though the full QWERTY keyboard Berrys are getting smaller, they still feel like a calculator in your pocket.
Thoughts on:
(my perspective = go through > 100 emails and return > 20 a day via BB in Calif.)
* Suretype – dislike it but love form factor so keeper for me. 8800 = brick.
* Verizon – left it but might go back if BB available. NorCal and OC, Cingular voice sucks.
* iPhone – want it because it’s cool but no other good reason, just like iPod video & iPod nano I don’t use. Would get in line on 29th but company IT won’t support, no corporate email access = non-starter.
Robb,
I must be in a third camp – I think SureType is okay. It’s better than I thought it would be and a neat idea… and I will continue to use it, but it can be frustrating at times, and I do miss the full QWERTY sometimes.
Even though the full QWERTY BBs are getting to be a better form factor, I think I still like the slight frustration with the SureType over the very compact full QWERTY (I think my thumbs are too big).
