According to the official BlackBerry Twitter account BlackBerry App World has surpassed 10,000 apps… sort of… App World counts BlackBerry themes in their total app number and there are over 2300 themes. We won’t even go into just how bad most of them are so lets just say that there are roughly 7700 apps in BlackBerry App World… This is just a drop in the bucket compared to the 50,000 plus apps in Android MarketPlace and the over 100K apps in the App Store.

What is really sad about this story is how many more apps Android and the iPhone have relative to the amount of time those phones have been out compared to to the Blackberry.
But, how long has Blackberry App World been around though? I think Apple and Android had a bit of a lead in that respect.
I will concede that point, but, when you look at the tens of millions more BlackBerry users than there are on the iPhone or Android, RIM should have been able to make up that difference or at least come a little closer.
You also have to keep in mind that the App Store is really the only way to get iPhone apps and the Market Place is really organized way to get them for Android. BlackBerry users have been able to get applications from sites like Handango and Mobihand for years, and because of that, no single BlackBerry store will ever reach the number of Apps that that you seen in the monopoly that is the iTunes App Store.
And do we count the 5247 fart apps in the count for Apple App Store?
What is crazy to me is that BlackBerry dominate the usage but seem to have the least amount of apps. The company that I work for created a new app and BlackBerry was the last phase. Because they have so many formats – it takes forever for them do the ratios and such for each different model and setup. BlackBerry should make this more constant and then they would end up catching up with the rest!
