What Will Apple Say In Their Press Conference Today?

July 16, 2010 by Robb Dunewood 5 Comments

I know that this is a BlackBerry site, but, Apple is holding a pretty important press conference today, presumably about the iPhone 4 antenna issues many users have been complaining about.

I am guessing that Apple will fall short of issuing an iPhone 4 recall, however, will probably offer some type of cheap bumper case that prohibits physical contact with the antenna.

Here are some of the thoughts of a few of my pals over on SMR and I would love to hear what you think Apple will say here in the comments.

Apple pointed out the Blackberry Bold saying it has problems with reception. This is Rim’s chance to hold a PR event showing how much better a “phone” the Bold is compared to any iPhone.
Apple started it RIM should stick it to them!!!!

A campaigan in midst of stating “a brand is a brand, what matters is if the phone works for you” stating how a blackberry is always reliable

Well, I’ve been a BB fan for the longest time and own a variety of BB’s, currently running the 9650. I also use the Droid Incredible, Palm Pre Plus (as a MiFi…thank you for the idea Robb), and currently playing with the iPhone 4.

I’ve been able to replicate all the issues that have been brought up regarding the iPhone 4, but only weak signal areas make it an issue, thus going back to the network performance of AT&T. It’s by far the best built device I’ve experienced regarding hardware (although the antenna is in an odd location considering the death grip conductor) and would recommend it to anyone who isn’t faint at heart with signal bars or AT&T’s network. I run my Droid Incredible, which almost consistently displays 0-1 bars of reception, and still brings in the calls, data, etc.

I say this…I think much is being overblown about the antenna, however Apple put themselves in this position by designing the antenna in a location that can create this type of issue and hysteria. Next time I’m sure they’ll reconsider accepting design over matter, and offer a product that may independently take top spot in the cell phone market (provided they find another carrier outside of AT&T…Verizon?).

Now, back to my Droid Incredible, which by they way is my phone of choice. 🙂

You are my phone hero @bluehorseshoe. I am debating switching to the 9650, how do you like it. I gave my wife the Incredible and she loves it.

As for the antenna issues during the live blog tried to replicate on my Storm. I did not have much luck. Regardless think I will grab the iPhone 4 with the Element Case. http://www.elementcase.com/

I am glad to see RIM responded fast to Apple’s claims
