VersaTool: A New All-In-One Productivity App For BlackBerry (20 Free Copies)

March 9, 2010 by Robb Dunewood 21 Comments

Versatile Monkey, the company behind the popular BlackBerry podcatching application, PodTrapper, let us know that their latest BlackBerry app, VersaTool, an all-in-on productivity utlility, is out of beta and available for download.

“With VersaTool I wanted to create the ultimate utility app.” said Marcus Watkins, developer. “In the past, users have needed to purchase four or five different apps just to get half the functionality currently in VersaTool, now they can have all that and more in a single affordable app.”

Marcus is looking to get a little feedback on VersaTool and we figure that a good way to do that is with a giveaway…

Here is what you do…

Check all the features of VersaTool out here.  If it sounds like an application you’d like to try out, download the Free 30-Day Trial in the RIMarkable Store.  The first 20 people to come back and leave a (meaningful) comment telling us what you think of VersaTool get a free copy.

This is a unique product, but it has a number of functions that might leave you thinking “I have that already”. For instance, profile management and , lets face it, most people have the free forward, reply & edit application. The second most useful feature in my view is the ability to “undelete” email, but this is limited to the most recent 55 email. One issue though is that it doens’t recover deleted email attachments. Without a doubt, the best feature in this application is the ability to have notifications silenced during any calendar event marked busy. That’s one item I’d buy as a stand-alone application. The memory monitor isn’t really that useful if you’ve got a new BB with ample memory and the flame retardant (warning before using all caps, profanity, etc….) isn’t really worth it for me – I guess I try not to go off on people by email. The batter monitor might be useful in detecting heavy battery-draining applications, but I haven’t used it long enough to tell at this point. Anyway, for what it’s worth, that’s my $.02. Try it & see for yourself.

First off i wondered how long before someone finally decided to produce something with such capabilities. Wat has me sold is the fact i can now remove around 4-5 separate apps currently on my blackberry, which to someone with OCD tendancies such as myself, im happy to clean up some clutter. The just take a picture feature is one perk that im really going to enjoy, as i always lock my bb when it goes into the holster, and it seems by the time i can hit my unlock combination the photo op has usually passed by. The biggest appeal to me that VersaTool has to offer, will be (in no particular order): Just take a picture, canned responses, auto reply, run on schedule, and lastly the fact that it will also take screen snaps. Quality product here made to suit anyones needs. Cheers.

I’m always looking for new apps and using them on my BB. Recently I started having some memory problems, freezes, etc and the only remedy was a battery pull-off. I tried Versatool and I found out that I could get rid of many programs I tend to use. The result less programs running at the same time, less memory used. It wasn’t a drastic change on the memory usage but at least my BB is running smoothly again, without momentary freezing or non-responsive moments. At the beggining it was hard to get used to the app but after a day of having a lot of actions quickly accessible, it felt like a it has been there all the time. Definitely this is an all-in-one program that can replace most of the commonly used apps out there.

I’ve been dogged lately by my iPhone friends who are constantly chirping about their apps. The ‘berry is made to be productive, seamless, friendly and frankly there are many stodgy apps. 10 minutes after I downloaded VersaTool I was smiling, 5 minutes after that I was in love. I was able, in a very short time, to generate single key presses to do things, get the weather up and running, and set up about 10 “canned” replies that I have had to constantly retype on the handheld (as opposed to being able to easily cut and paste on the desktop). I cannot wait to be able to sit at home in the recliner and really play with it more. I also can’t wait to see what suggestions other folks make that will show up in updates. Thanks for this marked improvement (not to mention how fast it works!!)

I have played around with this app and I would say to them that the canned response is cool for quick professional responses, the built in quick battery pull is great when my phone is acting silly(I can delete quick pull off phone), tip calc is great for restaurant use, and overall having all the most used apps under one umbrella is just plain smart.

I really have to say that this program is a bright ray of sunshine. I love the alarms feature because although it improved over previous os versions, having to use the calendar to make alarms is annoying. The other reature I really love is Just Take the Picture. Out of everything this wonderful app can do my least favorite feature would have to be the tip calculator, but that is because I personally have never seen the point in them not because it isnt done well

I would love the opportunity to win this app, it would go along nicely with QuickLaunch, and the “undelete” option is priceless!!! Can’t name how many times I have needed that In my life. Also being that I work in the wireless industry, by having this app I can accurately cross sell this to my many Blackberry customers!

The feature I love the most so far from this app is the fact that it allows me to add additional functionality to the convenience keys. Currently I have the left key assigned to lock my BlackBerry and the right key to launch the camera app. The menu makes it easy, even for a novice, to create a new action to the various convenience key combinations listed. I’d love to keep using this app!

I’ve been using the beta testing version when it first came out. The app is amazing. I think my favorite feature is the Pop Up Menu. I have the Tip Calculator, Flashlight and the Orbcast website so that I can stream my music.

    Awesome app.

I have been trying this essentially since the beta started, and this basically includes everything that qualifies as a “next step” for Blackberry devices in the future. I had been looking for a functional, but cheap multi-alarm and have used VersaTool’s for weeks now. Definitely that one application for me that I use constantly without realizing it.

This is app is awesome. I’ve been looking for and app that does unit conversion and I’m glad i finally found one. Also the canned response helps a lot when I’m on my work phone and I’m getting a personal call on my blackberry. Very cool app, I’d love the opportunity to win a copy!

I’ve been using the beta testing version when it first came out. This is one of the best app out there which provides the functionality of another 2-3 utility apps in ONE. I would say this is definitely in the “must has apps” list. The features I can’t live without are “undelete” and alarms. As per my BlackBerry usage, I am using these two functions the most.

Very cool app- I have been looking for a better alarm application, so I can’t wait to put this one thru the paces. Also, the battery pull is very useful- the last (free) one I tried always crashed my Bold, so I uninstalled it.

    Thanks!

I think that this app though provide many things that replace 4-5 other apps on my phone, it make it really convenience and easier to get things done quick. of course some are useful, and some i dont really care for. I think it could still have some refining/features they can add to make it better. As it can schedule the berry to reboot to refresh your free memory, it would be better if it can have some sort of free memory feature without rebooting (even if it’s not alot). or some sort of memory/battery managment like meterberry. but i only read the features so far, and havent actually tried out the trials yet….will report later after i try it out tonight

Overall a nice collection of apps. I like the ability to break out the apps to separate launchers. But I found you have to make your changes to the weather app before you create the separate launch icon – the independent icon doesn’t seem to save changes.

The “Really Convenient Keys” are nice for making the keys multi-function -it’s easier than scrolling around with the trackball.

To keep it short, Versatool is like a Blackberry toolchest. With this one app you get the functionality of several standalone apps. Now instead of hunting and pecking looking in different places for the app you need you can go to one place and find the tool you need.
There’s another relatively new app that calls itself a BB toolbelt. This app is more like a tool chest in that it carries several tools not just 4 or 5.

I’ve been playing around with VersaTool for about a day now and it appears to be a slick little application. The biggest benefit of VersaTool, in my opinion, is that it provides functionality in one application that that four other applications I currently run provide.

FINALLY!!! An app whose name stands up to it’s product. While there are numerous apps out there that promise SOME of these functions, VersaTool delivers them ALL, in one sweet package. A MUST have!

More and more apps are coming out for the BlackBerry that make it more usable and more convenient. VersaTool is one of those tools. I’ve been a fan of gadgets for quite a while now, my iPod Touch being the latest. i like that many apps can be run that help perform different functions. I’ve had several BlackBerries and never really liked them. My latest, however, has changed my mind. Two of the many features of VeraTool that increase the functionality of the Tour, in my opinion, are the tip calculator and the ability to have multiple alarms. Try it for yourself!

i tried this app for about 2 days now. there are a few things that it seems to replace for my other apps. for instance they have that schedule wifi on/off option like superpower app. im not sure if im missing something but the really convienence key was kinda misleading. i thought it was something like quicklaunch or superqwerty where i can press on 1 key to launch an app/website/etc, but it was mainly the 4 main keys and the 2 side buttons, and well i was wishing for alot more quick key to launch apps to replace superqwerty which is what im using. but over all, it’s a pretty decent app that would go in hand with a few other apps i have while replacing a few others.
