Verizon Kicks Off Buy One Get One Sale With A Twist

August 14, 2009 by Robb Dunewood 10 Comments

Of the heels of a very popular buy one BlackBerry, get one BlackBerry free promotion that Verizon ran early this year before the BlackBerry Tour came out, Verizon is running another BlackBerry BOGO sale, this time with a twist…

The second device doesn’t have to be a BlackBerry.

HP Mini 1151 NetbookIt actually looks like Verizon is running two BOGO sales that overlap each other.  There is the BlackBerry sale, and, also a BOGO sale on the HP Mini 1151NR Netbook where you can get any second device of equal or lesser value for free.  In both cases 2-year activation plans are required, however, this is a heck of a deal and has done well for Verizon in its past iterations.

This promotion runs today through October 15th and you can get more information online or at your local Verizon Store.

Happy Back-To-School shopping…

Sadly this probably wont be around when I’m ready to upgrade…

I do recommend the HPMini though. LOVE mine! Windows 7 runs great on it 😉

The Rock see that the desperation continues, for verizon the upgrade to LTE/GSM can’t happen fast enough. Too bad big red’s newest give away promotion doesn’t exactly service RIM and the Blackberry this time. This might help verizon retain customers which are thinking about churning away for the iPhone running on standard, open, global GSM, but it won’t help RIM’s numbers much.

I think Verizon opened this up because of the popularity of the the BlackBerry only BOGO they had going late last year and earlier this year.

At the end of the day these types of deals benefit the manufacturers immensly as they are not the ones subsidizing the cost of their hardware. Trust me, RIM gets paid for every BlackBerry Verizon sells regardless of it if was paid for or subsidized 100%. My guess is that it is time to buy a bit of RIM stock.

BOGO when each is a piece of crap (read BlackBerry Tour) isn’t all that good of a deal. When I was returning my Tour there were six others in line doing the same thing. The Storm is horrible and Storm 2 won’t be out until this sale is over, so what’s left…an antiquated Curve? I’ve been a loyal VZW customer for ten years, but they just can’t get the good hardware (iPhone, BB Bold, the list goes on). Yes, they have the best network, and I’ll stick with them for that, but someday I wish they’d be the first to get a decent BlackBerry.

What did you not like about the Tour?

Rather than answering with just my opinion, just go to http://forums.crackberry.com/f141/ and read the hundreds of problems and literally tens of thousands of posts about this BlackBerry. There are only a few problems, but they’re major and it seems thousands of people have the same issues. Other than not working with Bluetooth headsets, hands-free auto devices, muffled sound to the party you’re calling it’s a good phone 🙂

Now remember the Storm wasn’t up to known RIM Blackberry standards either, now we hear the Tour is having issues too? WOW! T-Mo, AT&T must be lucky that for some reason their BB’s work where the ones for verizon don’t….. Either that or it’s verizon’s app and function removal demands and firmware changes which are causing all these problems while keeping all verizon customers behind the walled garden, aka verizoned.

Wake up consumers this is not good for RIM BB owners, this is not good for RIM.

I really wanted the Tour…but what good is a cool BB if everyone you’re talking to says “can you speak up…you’re muffled” or “quit whispering”. I’m going to keep my Curve on VZW for now because at least it works, but I’m going to pickup an iPhone tomorrow and see if I can tolerate AT&T’s service. Last time I tried them three years ago all I got was dropped calls and voice mails a day late…and we live in a huge metro area with five-bars all the time. There really is something to VZW’s claim of the best network.

How are you in Verizon’s walled garden with a BlackBerry.

A regular “phone first” device I can understand, but a BlackBerry?
