It looks like Motorola and Telus are going after would-be BlackBerry users right in Research in Motion’s back yard. Telus will be the first carrier to offer the Motorola Q in Canada.
According to Telus’s website, the Motorola Q will be $249.99 with a three year contract with voice, email, and data plans totaling $80 per month or more thru June 30th.
I have never been one to cry “BlackBerry Killer”, however, I have been a fan of the Q going way back to when we were calling it the RazrBerry (incorrectly I might add). I have been tossing around the idea of carrying a BlackBerry and a mobile phone and the Motorola Q along with the Mobile ESPN phone are at the top of my lists right now.

Yeah…that ESPN phone is really sweet…
Imagine if they made an ESPN Q!
As kind of an aside, I saw the new Cingular 7130c at a COR store today in a mall, and all I can say, is, boy, was I impressed. That is one sweet phone.

Robb: I agree…an ESPN BB would be one amazing device!
I actually think there could be a good market for such a device. There are a whole lot of sports fans out there, and many already use BBs. I don’t know how well the ESPN phone is doing in terms of sales, but I do think that mobile ESPN could benefit from a larger screen than on the current offering.

As another observation, the implementation of the scroll wheel on a BB is totally superior to the one on a Q. The action, the feel is better…not to mention, the menus are far superior on a BB. That really is the main point…the BB OS is far superior to WM in terms of usability.
That being said, I do think the Q is going to be an absolutely huge hit, largely due to all of it’s “fun” features, like the camera, media player, etc. In fact, where I think we’ll see the Q excel will be in pulling a lot of people who otherwise would buy a higher end conventional phone and convincing them to go with a smartphone. That will be a huge win for the carriers, who can then sell higher priced data plans. Of course, this is the kind of crossover customer that BB could aim for if it released a unit with similar multimedia features.
