OS 5.0.0.230 Leaked For The BlackBerry Tour

BlackBerry Tour

OS 5.0.0.230 for the BlackBerry Tour has been leaked.  My guess is that, with the increasing frequency that we are seeing leaked 5.0 releases of the BlackBerry OS, it won’t be long before RIM and the various carriers get around to officially releasing it.

As always, leaked OS updates are unsupported, so, if you plan to install 5.0.0.230, make sure that you know what you are doing and that you get a good backup of your Tour before you start.

BlackBerry Tour

We just told you a couple of days ago about a the leaked version of OS 4.7.1.53 making the rounds for the BlackBerry Tour. We are now happy to report that Verizon has officially released OS 4.7.1.53.

OS 4.7.1.53 is definitely available via BlackBerry Desktop Manager and we hear that a wireless update will be available shortly and that it will appear on Verizon’s BlackBerry Software Updates page.

There is a change log, compiled by BGR, of what’s different in OS 4.7.1.53 after the jump.

BlackBerry Tour

If you own a BlackBerry Tour and want to update to the latest “leaked” firmware, BlackBerry OS 4.7.1.53 is online and ready for download.

OS 4.7.1.53 for the BlackBerry Tour is not an official release and thus is not supported, so, if you decide to download it, get a good backup of your device before you implement it.

Alltel BlackBerry Tour 9630

Even though Verizon completed its acquisition of Alltel back in January, Alltel is still operating in over 90 markets nationwide.  If you have happen to be an Alltel subscriber in one of these markets you can now buy a BlackBerry Tour 9630 device for $199 after a $100 mail-in rebate and a 1-year subscription to an Alltel “Smart Choice” plan of $69.99 or more per month.

Verizon

According to a rumor coming out of BGR, BlackBerry OS 4.7.1.42 for the Verizon BlackBerry Tour is coming soon.  The hope is that this update will fix lag issues and problems some Tour users have experienced with the trackball.

Plazmic CDK 4.7

For all of you BlackBerry theme developers that want to start creating BlackBerry themes for the Tour and the Curve 8520, Plazmic has updated Content Developer’s Kit 4.7 to support both devices.  I am guessing that we will start seeing more BlackBerry Tour and Curve 8520 themes any minute now.

Plazmic CDK 4.7 is a free download and you can get it here

Slacker Radio

Just a little over a week ago we heard that Verizon was pushing Slacker Radio to the BlackBerry Storm.  It looks like Verizon BlackBerry Tour users are getting the same treatment.  We haven’t seen a press release (yet) like we did when Verizon started pushing Slacker to the Storm, however, enough BlackBerry Tour users have told me that a new icon for Slacker has appeared on their device after rebooting it for me to believe that this is true.

By the by…  For those of you that don’t want Slacker, the application is not actually pushed to you as it is just an icon for the installer.  If you don’t want it, simply hide the icon once it appears.

Post image for RIMarkable Will Now Refer To Sprint As “Can’t Get Right”

If this story turns out to be true we will casually refer to Sprint as “Can’t Get Right”, because, well, they really don’t seem to be able to get it right.

How in the world did Sprint accidentally ship out a Verizon branded BlackBerry Tour in a Sprint box to a Sprint customer.  Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know.  This could have happened at RIMs’ warehouse.  Could it really have though?  This just seems like the kind of thing that could only happen to Sprint Can’t Get Right.
