It is really no secret that the BlackBerry Storm 2 is coming to Verizon even though RIM nor Verizon has officially announced the device. An official announcement, however, hasn’t kept Verizon CEO, Lowell C. McAdam, from telling the New York Times that he has been carrying around a BlackBerry Storm 2 for a few weeks.
Lowell C. McAdam, the chief executive of Verizon Wireless, has been carrying the revamped device for a few weeks, looking for any evidence that this time it will catch on. Mr. McAdam said that while he was recently visiting the Verizon store in New York’s SoHo district, he started talking to a couple of students from New York University who were shopping for cellphones.
It is expected that the BlackBerry Storm 2 will be announced is within the next couple of days. Even though the first BlackBerry Storm received overwhelmingly poor marks (for good reason) in just about every review it received, it still sold well over a million units. The Storm 2, on the other hand, has received quite a bit of praise, so, it will be interesting to see just how well it does. I am guessing that it will do extremely well…
The Ultimate BlackBerry Ninja, Solomondrin, has gotten his hands on the most recent build of the Verizon BlackBerry Storm 9550 with OS 5.0.0.287 and he says that this mix of hardware and software, if not already ready for prime time, is awfully close to it.
The latest update I did to the phone made the phone a solid device. This is exactly what RIM had in mind when they decided to put out the phone. We are back to the screen becoming solid when its off, but now the buttons on the bottom of the phone (send, end, app, return) are able to bring the screen back to life as well.
It shouldn’t be too long before the Verizon BlackBerry Storm 9550 is officially announced and then released. I am torn, however, on whether or not I want to get one of these the first day it comes out. I, personally am not dissatisfied with the touchscreen on the original BlackBerry Storm and Wi-Fi is not the killer feature for me that it is for a lot of people looking to get their hands on this device.
I may actually hold off on getting the BlackBerry Storm 2 until after OS 5 is officially released for the Storm that I already have… Of course, I say this today before I am able to actually walk into a Verizon store purchase the darn thing. If past history is any indication, I will probably get the Storm 2 around lunch time on the day that it is released.
I would be willing to bet that the release of the BlackBerry Storm 2, or, BlackBerry Storm2, as it may be called, is just around the corner because Best Buy stores around the country are starting to receive shipments of accessories for Research in Motion’s second stab at a touchscreen device.
In this video of what I believe to be a Rogers BlackBerry Storm 9520, Scott4551 demonstrates web browsing via Wi-Fi. All I’ve got to say is that I certainly hope this improves by the time the BlackBerry Storm 2 ships.
Download speeds are faster, but, other than that, things look pretty much the same as they do on the original BlackBerry Storm.
BlackBerryCool.com recently posted a pretty good BlackBerry Storm 2 picture to the web and is giving you the opportunity to ask them questions about the pre-release version of the upcoming device, which, by the way, is actually called the BlackBerry 9550.

If memory serves me correctly it was towards the end of September, beginning of October last year that we started to see Verizon commercials featuring the BlackBerry Storm. I believe that the BlackBerry Storm was and is still the most hyped BlackBerry to date, Verizon branded or otherwise.
Based on the rumored release dates of the BlackBerry Storm 2, now is about the time that you would expect to start seeing advertising for a new device, however, I wonder, when it comes to the BlackBerry Storm 2, will Verizon kick the ole’ hype machine back into gear?

Update: Looks like the video has been yanked.
It would appear that RIM has significantly increased the responsiveness of the touchscreen in the BlackBerry Storm 2, especially when it comes to typing…
Although rumors are indicating a late September – mid October launch window for the BlackBerry Storm 2, we still don’t have an official release date, or, even an official announcement claiming that the BlackBerry Storm 2 is coming at all. This, however, hasn’t prevented Vodafone from preparing to sell accessories for their branded BlackBerry Storm 9520 whenever the device does get officially announced then released.
As you can see by the picture above Vodafone has SKUs for a BlackBerry 9520 Charging Pod and a 3 Pack of 9520 Skins in their inventory system. Hopefully it won’t be too long before we see SKUs for an actual BlackBerry Storm 9520 show up…

In what seems like the endlessstream of BlackBerry Storm 2 videos coming out, the Storm 2 was pitted against the original BlackBerry Storm in a head-to-head face off. You might actually be surprised by who comes out on top if, for whatever reason, you actually thought RIM would make a the Storm 2 suck more than the Storm did when it first came out.
Without even watching the video, you could probably guess that the Storm 2 trounces the Storm in every way, including aesthetics, inclusion of Wi-Fi, increased memory, and an UI, however, for those of you that need to see for yourselves, you can watch the video after the jump. [click to continue…]
