by Robb Dunewood on March 30, 2009 · 5 comments

Verizon BlackBerry 8830According to Engadget Mobile, BlackBerry OS 4.5 is on the way for the Verizon BlackBerry 8830.  We aren’t quite sure why it took so long for Verizon to release 4.5 for their branded version of the 8830.  It’s been out for the Sprint BlackBerry 8830 for over a month.

Verizon Supplies FBI With BlackBerry 8830

by Robb Dunewood on April 14, 2008 · 6 comments

We just picked this up from BlackBerry Cool today, however, last week Verizon announced a worldwide deployment of 19,500 BlackBerrys to 56 or so Bureau field offices. The new devices will allow agents to access the Sensitive But Unclassified (SBU) Mobility Program for the first time from handheld devices.

In addition to providing the devices Verizon is also conducting in-person training with agents and transferring phone book contacts to the new BlackBerry 8830s.

“The FBI works hard to provide our agents and professional staff with the technology needed to perform their job anywhere in the world,” said FBI Chief Information Officer Zalmai Azmi. “These devices allow FBI employee’s access not only to the internet, e-mail calendar and taskings, but also to applications critical to our mission such as the no-fly list, missing and kidnapped persons, crime alerts, etc.”

Who Will Get The BlackBerry Curve 8330 First?

by Robb Dunewood on March 26, 2008 · 45 comments

BlackBerry Curve 8330There are pretty credible rumors that the BlackBerry Curve 8330 will appear on Sprint’s network on the 16th and 20th of next month for business users and individual consumers next month. The picture of the BlackBerry Curve that you are looking it is the Sprint branded version of the 8330.

I, however, just can’t believe that Sprint, with all the troubles that they have been having of late, will release the BlackBerry 8330 before the likes of Verizon, who usually is the first carrier to offer CDMA versions of BlackBerry devices.

We all know that Verizon was coming out with a pink BlackBerry Pearl, however, they kept plans for a red BlackBerry 8830 under pretty good wraps.

The Red BlackBerry 8830 is the same device as the silver version, both, of whice are available on Verizon’s site.

I know that a lot of you like me are thinking that a Red BlackBerry 8830 is OK but a a Verizon BlackBerry Curve in any color would be great.

The BlackBerry 8830 Lands on Alltell

by Robb Dunewood on August 30, 2007 · 1 comment

It is easy to forget about Alltell when it comes to wireless carriers in the United States, however, they claim to have the America’s largest network. It must be true because I read it on RIM’s site.

Well, the largest network now carries the BlackBerry 8830 World Edition. One can pretty much bet that Alltell will come out with a new BlackBerry device right after Sprint does.

This is a question that goes out to the RIMarkable readers. Why does Verizon disable GPS in their BlackBerry devices?

At one point Verizon was actually advertising GPS in the BlackBerry 8830. The pix to the right was snagged from a scan of the Spring 2007 edition of Verizon Wireless Connect and GPS is in the feature list clear as day. We know now that GPS didn’t actually make the cut, but, the bigger question is why.

We know that Verizon has the network to handle it. Verizon actually disables it in the BlackBerry but offers it as an add-on called VZ Navigator on other devices.

What gives? Leave your comments below. RIMarkable reader Hello No as well as many other Verizon subscribers would really like to know.
