Barack ObamaAfter all the back and forth over security concerns around the data on President Barack Obama’s BlackBerry has subsided the question now is if the POTUS’ personal safety at risk.

To make a long story short, there is a device called a TriggerFish that can be used to find physical location of mobile device users.  It kind of makes you wonder what security measures have been put into place to keep this from happening to to most protected BlackBerry user in the world.

Michelle ObamaPresident Obama isn’t the only Obama that has negotiated to keep their BlackBerry while in the White House.  First Lady Michelle Obama is a big time BlackBerry user as well.

“Mrs. Obama does use a blackberry,” press secretary Katie McCormick Lelyveld tells ABC News, “and any emails relating to the carrying out of the official or ceremonial duties of The First Lady would be subject to the Presidential Records Act.”

Barack Obama BlackBerryYou may have heard by know that President Barack Obama is allowed to continue using his beloved BlackBerry for personal use and and must use Windows CE powered Sectra Edge for anything official.  Microsoft is suggesting, however, that President Obama drop is BlackBerry all togehter because of the Canadian security threat.

“You would be sending your data outside the country,” says Randy Siegel, a Microsoft enterprise mobile strategist who works on federal government projects. “We wouldn’t want the casual musings or official communications of the most important person in the world being intercepted by others.”

Is that the best Microsoft could come up with?

President Barack Obama gets to keep his BlackBerry after all.

In a recent Barbara Walters interview, President Elect Barack Obama hinted that he may get to keep his BlackBerry after all.

WALTERS: How are you going to get along without your Blackberry?

OBAMA: (Laughs). This is a problem. I, you know, one of the things that I’m going to have to work through is how to break through the isolation … the bubble that exists around the president. And I’m in the process of negotiating with the Secret Service, with lawyers, with White House staff …

WALTERS: You might have a Blackberry?

OBAMA: Well, I’m, I’m negotiating to figure out how can I get information from outside of the 10 or 12 people who surround my office in the White House. Because, one of the worst things I think that could happen to a president is losing touch with what people are going through day to day.

It doesn’t sound like President Obama will sign any legislation that states the President must carry a BlackBerry on his person at all times into law, however, I am guessing that they are going to work something out…

This story is pretty much being reported everywhere, but, in case you haven’t heard, Preseident Elect Barack Obama may have to give up his BlackBerry once sworn in.

The president’s e-mail can be subpoenaed by Congress and courts and may be subject to public records laws, so if a president doesn’t want his e-mail public, he shouldn’t e-mail, experts said. And there may be security issues about carrying around trackable cellphones.

Having email subpoenaed is not such a big deal for me.  Everyone who works anywhere and has email is probably subject to this in some form or fashion.  I am guessing, however, that the secret service isn’t to big on the idea of the president walking around with a big low jack on his hip.
