Not impressed with Cingular 2125

January 19, 2006 by Robb Dunewood 5 Comments

Cingular has just released the 2125, the second smartphone running BlackBerry Connect competitor Windows Mobile 5, however, it is not fair to compare the Cingular 2125 to the BlackBerry… It is just not a fair competition.

Lets go over the specs, or lack there of depending on your viewpoint. No QWERTY keyboard, no memory card slots, only a 1.3 megapixel camera. It’s a Windows Mobile device and doesn’t even have a stylus. Replying to an email is absolutely brutal. There is no wi-fi and the 2125 only has 64Mb of memory. Any 710x series BlackBerry completely blows this device out of the water. To me the Cingular 2125 seems like a over-hyped, mediocre cameraphone with a Windows logo slapped onto it.

Actually, the 2125 has a mini-SD slot. It can be upgrdaded at least to 1GB.

I agree – typing will be a bear on this type of phone, but this device is very attractive, which making the 7100’s look a bit clunky.

No wi-fi, but do any Blackberry devices have wi-fi?

I own the 7100t for work and love it, but I may pick up this as my personal phone.

Thanks for pointing out the internal mini-SD slot Trebz. With the exception of the BlackBerry 7270 that has no cellular radio but does have Wi-Fi and a built-in VoIP client, Wi-Fi is a feature lacking from most BlackBerries.

The comment “It’s a Windows Mobile device and doesn’t even have a stylus”, is misleading.. The 2125 runs the smartphone version of Win Mobile which doesn’t require a stylus.

Wow, what a BS statement on your part. Did you do anything more than LOOK at the picture of the phone?!

    Lets see:

It has a mini SD slot

It has 64mb of Ram AND 64mb of ROM (Note, I compared that to the “710X” blackberrys you touted, and the majority of them have 32)

Yet, it is completely blown out of the water by the blackberry?

In what category? Text input? I guess you can claim that, otherwise, it outshines the blackberrys in every single way (And I like T9 quite a bit!)

Oh, and btw, its not supposed to have a touchscreen.

Really, I find this to be one of the worst “Comparisons” I have seen on the net!

It has a camera (which blackberrys lack)

It plays MP3s (Which blackberrys lack)
