Nokia to buy BlackBerry Rival Intellisynch for $430 million

November 16, 2005 by Robb Dunewood Leave a Comment

The world’s largest mobile device maker, Nokia, today announced plans to by mobile email solution provider and BlackBerry competitor Intellisynch for $430 million.

With Intellisync’s technology, Nokia said it will be able to offer the abilities to connect any device to any data source, application or network. That has become increasingly important as the work force turns increasingly mobile, but still requires easy access to internal corporate servers and databases.

It will be interesting to see how this acquisition plays out in the mobile email market as Nokia currently has deals with RIM for the use of BlackBerry Connect on some of it’s devices such as the Nokia 9300 smart phone and Nokia 9500 Communicatar as well as deals with other mobile email providers such as Visto, GoodLink, and Seven Networks.
