Nextel BlackBerry Curve 8350

Just over a year ago we told you that if you were on Nextel and wanted a new BlackBerry that you needed to switch carriers, however, about 6 months or so ago, we started hearing rumors about a new Nextel BlackBerry running on the iDEN PTT network that would come sometime between this fall and early next year.

Well, today we are hearing rumors that the new Nextel BlackBerry will indeed be a BlackBerry Curve, carrier the model number BlackBerry 8350, and support Wi-Fi 802.11 b and g. We are also hearing that the new Nextel BlackBerry Curve will run BB OS 4.6.1 and be the first Nextel BlackBerry to come without an external antenna.

Blackberry 8350 support WiFi and BB OS 4.6 sounds cool, and the most interesting thing that sound different is Nextel blackberry without external antenna.

Will voice run on Sprint’s network is the question I have. iDen kills unless you reside in a heavily populated area. Running voice off the Sprint network would certainly make this phone an attractive one for many people who like the PTT feature.

Yes it will run on Sprint voice.

It’s just a Q-Chat BlackBerry, that’s all.

Wrong. This is iDEN only. This is not Q-Chat. It is iDEN. Voice will be on iDEN
not Sprint. It is an upgrade to the 7100i. If you want a Sprint BB, they already have that.

Thank RIM! My company uses Nextel and have several 7100i’s (including myself). By today’s standards they can barely be considered blackberries but as you know they are the only ones available with PTT. (I tried to convince my boss that i really didn’t need PTT so i could get the Sprint Curve, didn’t work :-(.
Anyway this is great news and it has been a long time comming. I know i’ll be first in line (a short line) when they are released. Thanks for the heads up.

Ok so here is my thought on this idea. I was with Nextel for 6 years PTT rocks! IDen data blows……… So They have made a few hybrid phones here and there. CDMA for cellular service and IDen for the PTT. This would be an awesome phone if they did that. I only got rid of Nextel and went to Sprint because my work thought it would work out better for them without consulting the employees. I switched to Sprint and then about 45 days later my co-workers got their Nextels back. I was so frustrated! I could only hope for a hybrid Curve!

I truly can’t believe Sprint has not put a single ounce of energy to capitalize on one of its true strengths in purchasing nextel= Competitive Advantage–that is to say after much time have not brought to market a pda phone w/ push-to-talk. Sprints voice service is strong here in Metro Detroit along w/ Nextel (and yes I know that nextel is an older network) . I truly believe Sprint has taken a bad rap on overall business, but I am going to have to jump on the band wagon here and say how disappointing it is that Sprint does not have the insight to capitalize on one of it’s core competencies since purchasing nextel– that new advantage was supposed to be push to talk along w/ sprint high speed voice/data network. I can’t believe this new 8350 is not even a hybrid. Come on Sprint, because of your lack of action, foresight, whatever you want to call it–you have let nextels ptt slip slowly into our distant memories. Never thought I’d see the day Verizon & AT&T would even get a foot in the door on Push-to-Talk. Sprint! You’ve got the right plans, now capitalize on bring the best of nextel (PTT) to more sprint based phones–especially smartphones/pda’s. Sprint is still my favorite network, but I had to leave it for the iphone3g (by the way, att’s 3G doesn’t come close to sprints high speed performance & consistency)–never the less I stick w/ att & a $160 phone bill because the Sam.Instinct is great, but not great enough to replace the iphone—–BUT, You know what?! A Samsung Instinct, Rim Blackberry, Motorola Q, HTC pda that came with Qchat/Nextel PTT button hands down would have my iphone up on Craigslist in minutes. Sprint! Use the cards you were dealt when you purchased Nextel–Play w/ a full deck! —final thought–if not then sell to T-mobile! (Talk about a company that’s maximized/created competitive advantages out of thin air! They don’t even have 3G, but have capitalized on UMA over Wifi Technology and somehow managed to be an industry changer in landlines offering its landlines @ $10.00 unlimited/month)–not to mention they market in Pink! (ok, I’m rambling, forget that last pink statement–I’m sure women love it)

What’s ticking me off is no one is saying a thing about when. The minute I go out and buy a battery for my 7520 this new phone will come out the next day. I’m excited for the new phone, but dont want it to be on Sprint’s crappy network. It must be a pure Nextel, otherwise I will hop to vze or someone else. Yes, Sprint has tunnel vision, their service sucks, their cs sucks, everything sucks. They ruined a prospering company, totally trashed Nextel because they were too short sighted, killed all Nextel’s existing marketing and did their own thing . Whats amazing is the higher up havent a clue what I or the hardcore people think. They dont ask. If they took a random sampling of the general Nextel population, they would have seen what happened was coming. I predicted this mess long ago. Sprint = Trailer Trash cellular company. It’s just that simple. And we all know you can take Sprint out of the trailer park, but you cant take the trailer park out of Sprint.

If you want a NEXTEL in different colors than you have a sprint mentality. NEXTEL is beyond colorful phones. have you not figured that out yet.
