Bolt Browser Gets An Update: Works A Lot Better On The Storm

Bolt BrowserRemember Bolt, the mobile web browser that came out of private beta back in February?  Well Bolt Beta 2 is now available and it fixes that all over the place scrolling issue that the previous two versions had.

Some of Bolt’s new  features include:

  • Significantly improved BlackBerry scrolling speed and control
  • A new 3XL (extra large) magnification mode with content 33.3 percent bigger than in 2XL
  • Double tap approach to select links on touchscreen devices like the BlackBerry storm (eliminates inadvertent clicks)
  • Wi-Fi auto-selection as default option when Wi-Fi is both enabled and available
  • Save and view pages locally on the phone
  • Support for folders in favorites
  • A new landscape viewing feature
  • Copy and paste feature
  • Improved magnifier dragging in split screen mode on the BlackBerry Storm
  • A user preferences page to reduce menu clutter, especially useful on BlackBerry smartphones where the native menu structure, without sub-menus, is utilized.

Bolt, at least while it is in beta, is a free BlackBerry download.  You can install Bolt OTA to your device here…

Still doesn’t run that great on the Storm, IMO.

The improvements are nice and the speed is great, but the user interface still sucks. They should look at the default browser’s UI and stick to the Blackberry (Storm) standards. I’m still torn: painfully slow but usable default browser or fast but quirky Bolt.

For those not on Storms, this might be a better product.
