BlackBerry Niagara: The 3G-Less BlackBerry 9000

by Robb Dunewood on May 5, 2008

BGR has what looks like marketing slick mockups for RIM is calling the BlackBerry Niagara. It appears to be a BlackBerry 9000 like device less the 3G.

It looks pretty similar but there are also a few changes to the design like a larger bezel around the front, and a whole different back case.

I don’t doubt that the BlackBerry Niagara will have more horsepower than the BlackBerry Curve, however, I like the spaced out keys on the Curve much better and it feels like RIM has taken a step backwards with the design of the keyboard in my opinion.

Couldn’t agree more. IMO, the Curve just looks so much better. I don’t know what they were thinking with this one.

I don’t know Robb, I kind of like how this one looks. I can understand about the keyboard thing though. My husband prefers his 8730 over the 8830 because of how close the keys are to each other on the 8830.

I have small hands so it doesn’t bother me much.

…i think it still looks sharp. keyboard aside…

I like the aesthetics of it. It reminds me of a mixture between a bb 7130c and moto q9, but the keyboard doesn’t look real condusive with banging out long emails. I loved my 7130c and miss the looks of it. Really that’s the only the reason I like this device. The 8700 and 8300 series devices are the epitome of blackberry design at its perfection, in my opinion.

I just don’t get the purpose for this release if it doesn’t have 3G.

I agree with Robb…the keyboard seems a step backward. And even if one considers the design to be a little nicer, then it still doesn’t make much sense…it need some larger leap forward to justify it’s existence in the product line.
