Besides BlackBerry Messenger, What Is Your Favorite BlackBerry App?

April 13, 2010 by Robb Dunewood 30 Comments

The official @Blackberry Twitter account asked a great question today?  Besides BlackBerry Messenger, what is your favorite BlackBerry app?

I’ve created this post for two reasons…  If you are like me, 160 characters isn’t going to cut it and the fact that everyone is just retweeting the question as compared to answering it.  Feel free to leave a comment telling us what your favorite BlackBerry application is…

slacker radio is my fave mainstream app, but i have really been digging SocialBeat from iskoot on my VZW Curve. all my social media in one stream, no push is ok w/me as it’s better for my productivity.

BerryBuzz is definitely one of my favorite applications. LED notifications are definitely the best way to be alerted of messages and such. You dont even need to set your phone to vibrate in a meeting because you can tell just by looking at your phone. Great application.
Oh and BerryWeather is also my second favorite app nothing cant beat the way the weather looks with this great application.

    Berry411 (Beyond411). It’s basic, but that’s the beauty.

Don’t laugh: BlackBerry Maps. Why? Because It Just Works. It doesn’t do anything special, but it’s faster on my 8900 over EDGE than Google Maps. I love being able to fall back from Google Maps when it’s endlessly hourglassing me to BB Maps.

“Besides BlackBerry Messenger” – are you implying that BBM is a everybody’s favorite or some great application? Oh man, Blackberry really sucks…

Do you even use BBM? No app out there even comes close to the endless functionality of BBM.

    Top 5 Blackberry apps:

Socialscope (best. damn. twitter. client. period)
Google Mobile (maps, mail, search, voice and sync)
    Vlingo (SafeReader)
    Kayak (travel planner)
Quick Launch (best $4.99 I’ve sent on an app, ever!)

Are you implying maizein that the fact that other mobile platforms like the iPhone don’t have the super BlackBerry Messenger that those phones suck!? Oh man, iPhone and Android really suck…

@maizein: Stop being jealous. You can buy a BB later on. 😉

In all seriousness, the only ones who keep cribbing about BB “sucking” are those who have no serious emailing or business utility for their phones. In that case, you would definitely be better off with a play/toy phone like the iPhone. The only serious contender I see to the Blackberry is the Android platform. They have quite a way to go though.

Poynt! It’s better than having a phone book on my BB. Maps, gas prices, entertainment – has it all!
AND I don’t use BB Messenger, so it wouldn’t even be on my list.

Excellent question, applications is definitley not a reason I would even consider changing from BlackBerry to another smart phone. I have the following apps. loaded on my BlackBerry Storm 9530 o/s 5.0, which despite the memory space and slooowww browser, I am still able to efficiently and with ease accomplish everthing I need to do for work, home and play.

    In no specific order:
    AP Mobile
    BBSmart Alarm
    BugMe
    Compass
    Concise Oxford Dictionary and Thesaurus
    Documents to Go (premium)
    EGPS
    Emergency Info
    Free Tips
    LaterDude Pro
    Mobile Checkbook
    Mobipocket Reader
    Patternlock
    Poynt
    QuickPull
    Traffic
    Weatherbug
    WorldClock
    Xchange
    Google Maps
    BB Maps
    BB Messenger
and only because of memory space limitation (a major issue) I also once had these loaded:
    Opera Mini
    Worldmate

These are ALL favorites (and I did not include games :-))

Opera Mini (version 4.2) hands down. BB would be crap without it.
    Also like
    – Google Maps, especially if used with
    – BBLight
    – YouMail is pretty cool
    – Pandora

Hands down, I-Reply. Its one of the only apps I use on a daily basis. I hate when people text me and I’m not at my phone, only to discover their message hours later. I-Reply takes care of that for me and I give it a thumbs up! Go Appalachian Apps!

Opera Mini – NO COMPARISON! Without it the “Loading” would drive me crazy. I just wish someone would tell me how to make it my default browser from any application?!?

2nd place is SwipeLock (used to be TalkLock)…its generally a good thing when your ear isn’t randomly having a party with the touch screen…lol
