A Fire In Canada Disrupts BlackBerry Service The Philippines

December 13, 2007 by Robb Dunewood 2 Comments

According to the Inquirer.net, a fire in Canada damaged a communications link that has affected BlackBerry service of Smart Communications BlackBerry users in the Philippines.

I hate to say it, but, Research in Motion has been plagued by outages over the passed several months. One must begin to wonder if their network architecture as we know it today is scalable.

The problem is RIM holds all the data centres in one place in Waterloo, there is some redundancy, but it’s in the same place.
If there was a major disaster, say goodbye to the BlackBerry, I am not sure they could recover from that.
