4G LTE BlackBerry PlayBook Rumored To Launch July 31st for $550… I Don’t Buy It…

July 24, 2012 by Robb Dunewood 6 Comments

There is a rumor floating around that the 4G LTE BlackBerry PlayBook is set to go on sale one week from today, July 31st, for $550.  I am having a hard time buying this rumor simply because RIM would have an impossible time selling this device at that price point.

Regardless of the hardware, the entry price for 7″ tablets is $199.  The Kindle Fire, and, my new favorite tablet, the Google Nexus 7, have seen to that.

The 4G LTE PlayBook will have 32 GB of RAM and LTE, however, that isn’t enough to sell this device for $350 more than the entry point.

Whether or not the 4G LTE BlackBerry PlayBook will launch next week remains to be seen…  The leaked pricing, however, just doesn’t seem right…

Personally, I’d go for the Wi-Fi only option and a MiFi Wireless hotspot. I don’t say this just because this is a BlackBerry, as this is the case with all of my tablets.

That would be a perfect fit for you based on the amount of tablets you have.
        Is the MiFi pretty reliable?

I had to go the MiFi route with my Playbook because the corporate policy blocked pairing but allowed bridging. It has worked well and has allowed me to use multiple devices. However, having one less device (MiFi) to charge and carry would be nice. I’ll try to get the office to buy the 4G version. BTW, the Atlanta Airport Blackberry store has the Blackberry mini keyboards.
