It looks like Research in Motion is really intends for their new BlackBerry devices to stay on the minds of consumers as they have started giving devices names instead of numbered designations that no one remembers in the first place.
The to be officially announced BlackBerry 8100, according to a leaked press release, will be called the BlackBerry PearlTM. RIM has actually trademarked the name BlackBerry Pearl and so you know that it will be around for a while.
I think that I liked the code name BlackBerry Stealth a bit more, however, actually naming BlackBerry devices is definitely a move in the right direction.
I really like the name of “Pearl.”
I agree that “stealth” is kind of a cooler name esp. for guys…reminds me of secret agents, stealth fighters, etc.
Rather than “stealth”, though, the name “Pearl” will appeal to a broader audience, esp. have more appeal with females.
Also, I don’t know if in today’s age of terror threats, if the name “stealth” would have been a good one. I don’t think security officials want there to be all sorts of consumers out there talking about how much they use and love their “stealth” device.
Finally, the unit appears in the pictures to have a nice, shiny, smooth finish, and so the name “pearl” goes along nicely with that.
Good points Thought.
I read somewhere that woman between 17 and 31 used the camera on their phones 3 to 5 times more often than guys in the same age group. Naming a CameraBerry something that appeals to them is definitely a good move.
