I Really Like BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0, But…

February 27, 2012 by Robb Dunewood 6 Comments

After a week of playing around with BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 I have to admit that I really like it.

The OS is smooth, intuitive and easy the use and the implementation of multitasking is the best I’ve seen on a tablet.  RIM has added basic applications like calendar, contacts, and email, and, although they should have been on the PlayBook when it was released, they are there now.

When comparing BlackBerry PlayBook OS to highly modified version of Android on my Kindle Fire,  PlayBook OS 2.0 wins hands down.

When it comes, however,  to the 7-inch table that you will find in my breast jacket pocket at almost all times,  it will be the Kindle Fire…  At least for now.

What the Android App Player for BlackBerry PlayBook won’t do…

September 28, 2011 by Robb Dunewood 1 Comment

Research in Motion officially announced Android application support for the BlackBerry PlayBook back in March before the tablet was released, and, 7 months later we still don’t have an Android App Player.  RIM did say, however, during their Q2 Fiscal 2011 earnings call, that we would see  preview of the Android App Player next month during BlackBerry DevCon and that the Player would be released along with BlackBerry Tablet OS 2.0 shortly thereafter.

RIM is actually talking more about the Android App Player and starting to detail the features and functionality it will support when it comes to Android.  What RIM has been saying, however, has those anxious to get their hands on the Android App, asking less about when the Android support will be available, and, more about just home much Android support PlayBook users will get…

Is the QNX-powered BlackBerry Colt Coming at the end of this year compared to the beginning of the next?

August 16, 2011 by Robb Dunewood Leave a Comment

Rumors of the 1.2 GHz, single core, QNX-powered BlackBerry Colt started making the rounds last week. The first BlackBerry superphone to run the QNX BlackBerry operating system was supposed to come out in early Q1.  New reports, however, have emerged indicating that the BlackBerry Colt could makes its debut at the end of 2011.

The existence of the BlackBerry Colt is just a rumor, so, the BlackBerry Colt actually coming out in 2011 is like a rumor squared.  Take it with a grain of salt.

July 13, 2011 by Robb Dunewood 6 Comments

During Research in Motion’s annual shareholder’s meeting yesterday, RIM co-CEO Jim Balsillie said that 7 new BlackBerry devices running its next generation operating system would be out in the coming months.  (For clarity, ‘next generation operating system’ actually means BlackBerry 7 which is still based on RIMs old BlackBerry OS.  The real next generation QNX OS currently found running on the BlackBerry PlayBook won’t be out on the BlackBerry until early 2012.)
