It must be that time of the year because rumors of Microsoft buying RIM are beginning to spread. These rumors are probably as ridiculous now as they’ve ever been.
“There is a rumor Microsoft is going to acquire some or part of RIM,” said Greg Palmer, head of equity trading at Pacific Crest Securities Inc. in Portland, Oregon. “It doesn’t make sense because they’ve already got a handheld product.”
Can you imagine Microsoft having a PDA with great build quality that actually works well all of the time instead of just some of it?
Me neither…
Sorry it just doesn’t make sense for MS to buy a vertical platform like RIM which competes directly with its own product Exchange/Messaging
When you can’t beat them micro$haft’s usual MO is to buy them….. Micro$haft already tried the first step, trying to put RIM out of business with the NTP fiasco which didn’t work.
“The word doing the rounds Thursday was that Microsoft is interested in RIM in light of a recent announcement from search engine behemoth Google that it is interested in making its own mobile phone operating system.”
“We’re not seeing Microsoft pushing a non-Windows Mobile based platform onto licensees any time soon — particularly one that relies as heavily on Java as the BlackBerry OS does — and a BlackBerry-branded device running Windows Mobile makes about as much sense as a Mac running Wind… oh, wait.”

If true it’s the iPhone and Symbian are going to be very good sellers…
M$ interest in buying RIM has only one purpose, to put them out of business. Case closed. They don’t want RIM’s technology, except to keep it from anyone else. Megaloman Bill is once again attempted to impose his vision and his crappy product on the masses, whether they want it or not.
cos microsoft just love java…
