RIMarkable reader Ben emailed us this morning informing us that his Verizon rep said that the BlackBerry 7130e is being discontinued.
We knew that this would happen eventually, however, we thought that it would be some time from now. The BlackBerry 7130e has been a personal favorite of mine since it’s release 2 and a half years ago.
If this rumor turns out to be true, a lot of BlackBerry users will be sad to see it go. Verizon can make everyone feel better, however, if they quickly come out with the BlackBerry Curve.
i actually work for verizon and i have the pearl. i am in love with the phone but i definitely want a qwerty keyboard and the curve is the only phone that i would ever replace my pearl with.
i did ask about it coming to verizon and even though im kind of at the end of the ladder, the person i asked said it would probably be a while before it came to verizon, IF it came to verizon. i was very sad to hear this and thought i would pass the info.. sorry to be a buzz kill
Those of us that stick with Verizon know that we get devices that are locked down and a year late. For some, their network is worth it. For others, they go to AT&T or T-Mobile.
Rumors have the CDMA Curve coming out mid to late Q2. This post was more wishful thinking than anything else.
Verizon may be discontinuing the model but RIM will still support it. They still support all models they have ever made.
well maybe I can get one cheap then as my 7130 is in bad shape!
jonabyte,
no doubt…
Robb,
vzw’s move to standard, open, global GSM/LTE should help this issue.

VZ’s move to LTE is for data not voice. Nothing will change for BB and other handsets for many
I’m waiting…
michael,
LTE is a technology in the GSM family.
Verizon dumps CDMA for GSM-based LTE in 4G networks
http://www.engadget.com/2007/09/21/verizon-dumps-cdma-for-gsm-based-lte-in-4g-networks/
In one move forward in technology, vzw will upgrade from closed, proprietary, end of life cdma, to standard, open, global GSM/LTE making vzw’s network compatible with it’s sister network voda, like many other service providers before them, upgrading to GSM, leaving qualcomm in the dust and not looking back. This move is a positive for all, vzw, voda, consumers.
Verizon chooses LTE for 4G network, hell freezes over
http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2007/09/21/verizon-chooses-lte-for-4g-network-hell-freezes-over/
“In a move to standardize two of the largest networks in the world, Vodafone and Verizon Wireless have announced that both carriers will move to LTE (Long Term Evolution) for its next-gen networks.”
Whala, the wait is over!
And may I add, the usual hellno crap without even provoking him.
Unreal…
Whats the matter bluehorseshoe? Still can’t handle the TRUTH? You really need a alternative site http://www.POWDERPUFFmakrable.com since you can’t handle what those in the know have to chat about, if “waiting” for what I chose to add matters so much to you. Perhaps to a troll (as you have proven yourself again and again) you’d like the rest of us to base our posts on false information? (like you do) What is the matter with voda&vzw move to upgrade to the future? The only thing “unreal” is your constant thread crapping, making personal comments, and your desire to keep FUD and ignorance above the truth. Now do EVERYONE a favor educate yourself on the topics before your comment diarrhea starts spouting again. Stop using RIMarkable as your personal toliet, have some class, have some respect. Each and every comment you chose to post confirms how much you have no clue about, instead of your desperate need to stroke your ego, your showing just how ignorant someone can be.
The evidence keeps building…
Now since the ignoramus has gotten the attention he so craves, perhaps back to the topic.
With voda and zvw standardizing their networks to standard, open, global technology it will not only make things easier on consumers, Robb might just get his Curve after all since RIM won’t have to spend the time and money making non-standard devices. Speaking of the devices at very least vzw customers will be able to use devices with all RIM designed functions working, not crippled to nickle and dime.
Also that horror UI on the 7130e pictured, kiss that forced vzw UI bye for good when the standard, open, global network GSM/LTE is up and running. Welcome to wireless freedom.
It’s official, the inmate has taken control of the asylum!
@bluehorseshoe,
Far be it from me to defend hellno, however, his comment, although the same old thing that he as been saying forever and kind of annoying at that, it is fairly on topic.
When you, however, say “And may I add, the usual hellno crap without even provoking him,” you in fact are doing just that.
@ Nelson R.
It’s directed as a point, that he will still post the exact same verbiage with links, take up the same amount of real estate, and knock VZW as if he were a disgruntled ex-worker. Words like vealot, zealoy, sad sheep are what I pick on because using those words deliver insight as to who he/she is and what he/she is about.
If I took a vacation from the board, he/she would still find a way to offend someone with their choice of words and delivery. I’m not the only one who has ripped this person, just the only one who continues having fun with this disadvantaged fool.
It’s s touching to see bluehorseshoe yet again desperatly try blaming others for his own poor behavior, it yet again shows much about the type of person bluehorseshoe really is.
One way or another bluehorseshoe will learn this is RIMarkable which is about the wireless industry NOT a place for his personal thoughts and opinions of others. One way or another bluehorseshoe will learn people don’t post for him and certainly any “vacation from the board” he takes would not change how or what others post, other than the thread craps and personal attack posts would be gone. Saddly “fun” to bluehorseshoe means thread crapping, making personal comments, and his desire to keep FUD and ignorance above the truth. Nothing but a troll with a desperate need to stroke his ego, with even that failing him. One way or another bluehorseshoe will learn he and his posts have lost all credibility long ago and his posts mean nothing, and sure have no bearing on what others think other than verifying the type of person bluehorseshoe really is.
Willful ignorance.
Now since the ignoramus has again gotten the attention he desperately craves, perhaps back to the topic (again).
Wouldn’t the 8130 be the replacement for the 7130e? The 87xx the 71xx form factor are RIM’s history, the thumb wheel has been retired for the trackball. RIM is moving forward, IMO no sense in not discontinuing the 7130e. Robb you like the 7130e better than your 8130? In a way I guess the 87xx the 71xx form factor were the end of a era at RIM, where I do like my Pearl and the Curve still always will think fondly on my old 8700, even though at the time it was missing some of the features which make the Pearl and the Curve what they are today.
@ hellidiot
Still doesn’t change the fact that you’re a retard, close minded, and demented.
Sorry Robb, I tried. He’s just such a fool I can’t resist. At least it’s pulling in the page hits. 🙂
Seriously, I’d like to hear about what current/former 7130e users will miss- what aspects of the 8130 are undesireable from a 7130 lover’s standpoint? If the qwerty keyboard wasn’t such a crutch for me, I think the 8130 would be my first choice.
my 7130e SUCKS !!!!
I admittedly have not read through all of the responses here, but I have a quite serious question. Why do you like this device? It is as bulky as the (also outdated) 8700, without the full keyboard or newer software and is far less attractive. It is ridiculous that Verizon has been peddling this thing for as long as they have, and not even at that heavily reduced a price. This entire post begs the question, is there something I do not know about this dinosaur of a device?
Thanks for sharing
I’d prefer reading in my native language, because my knowledge of your languange is no so well. But it was interesting! Look for some my links:
@7130e guy.
I 100% completely agree. I can’t wait to get rid of this abomination. It has some great features, but when an even moderately heavy javascript in the web browser can prevent the phone from dialing, it tells me that they need to go back to the drawing board.
I’m tempted to pay full ticket for a new phone, but am going to wait six more months to get the new equipment deal. And then, it’s a 1 lb can of tannerite for this phone (search tannerite on youtube)
