BGR has uncovered some of the specs on the upcoming BlackBerry Pearl 2, code named the Komet, and one things that stands out is the 3.2 megapixel camera. With an improved flash and a 6X digital zoom the BlackBerry Pearl 2 will take awfully nice pictures.
You still see the occasional digital camera in Best Buy or Target that is still only 3.2 megapixels and truth be told, most people never need to use a resolution higher than that as most home printers don’t even come close to printing at that resolution.
I hope these things come to Verizon sooner rather than later because I cannot wait to get my hands on one.
I do not believe this statement is entirely true:
“most people never need to use a resolution higher than [3.2 megapixels] as most home printers don’t even come close to printing at that resolution”
First, not all megapixels are created equal. Even the worst 3.2MP camera at Best Buy surely has a bigger sensor and more powerful flash than the Pearl 2, and therefore produces much better, less noisy images, especially in low light.
Second, any decent inkjet can output 240-300ppi, so to print an 5×7 you need 2-3MP. But most such printers let you print 8×10, 8.5×11, or even larger, which quickly outstrips any phone camera. An 8×10 at 300ppi requires over 7MP, for example.
Even though my phones have had cameras for quite some time, none have replaced the tiny point & shoot I keep in my bag.
That being said, I too hope the Pearl 2 comes to Verizon fast. I’m itching to dump my Treo and I really want a BB smaller than the 8830.
honestly, i dont nees camera i need 3G and Wi-Fi …..
just dont know why they dont release any new 3G with Wi-Fi Pearl ?!
Robb: kind of off topic, but have you seen that new ESPN package for Verizon’s Get It Now VCast service? I remember how much you liked that ESPN MVNO, and mentioned how it would be nice to have that on a BB.
Well, the rumor is that VZW is coming out with their VCast app for their smartphones, including BB’s, and of course that would include the ESPN option.
So when VZW comes out with their version of the Pearl, you can have both this great little phone and possibly that ESPN app on it.
Good memory Thought. I absolutely loved Mobile ESPN, less the fact that it was a Sprint MVNO and not just a carrier offered service for select phones like VCast.
is the Komet coming out on sprint also?
Has anyone heard the release date for the Tmobile Komet?
