What Is The Best Free BlackBerry Internet Radio Client?

Have you noticed all of the BlackBerry internet radio applications that have come out over the passed few months? There are a boat load of them out there. They all do the same thing, play music on your BlackBerry via the internet, although  some do it in different ways.

Do you need to install all of the BlackBerry internet radio clients on your device? Probably not, but, how do you know which ones work the best? I’ve got my favorites, however, I figured that this would be a good time to through up a poll.

What is the best free BlackBerry Internet Radio Client?

Here is a list of apps that we could think of off the top of our heads:  Slacker, FlyCast, Nobex, iHeartRadio, and Pandora.  I know that there are others so if you think of one, leave us a comment and I will add it to the poll located after the jump.

The caching feature of Slacker Radio is what makes it stand out above the rest. I don’t know if any other app replicates that same functionality. I’m sure some of the other apps might have a few better features or better interface … but being able to store my music locally is the killer feature. It gives a smooth listening experience with or without a great data connection!

The music selections are far more interesting than Pandora. It’a like the thing reads my mind sometimes.

I love Moodio.fm. That’s my absolute favorite. You can add stations, streams, etc. Just great!

Slacker is wonderful. The service is terrific, to say nothing of the fact that they were first out of the gate with a Storm version of their app. Station caching is a great feature, and i find that the song selection is unparalleled. i used to swear by Pandora until I was exposed to Slacker.

I am leaning towards Pandora. I have no problems with it on my Bold. Slacker was great but buggy. Slacker never seems to work when WIFI is active. Also, their are way too many commercials compared to other streaming radio services. The caching feature of Slacker is cool but I have yet to use it because I’m always connected and have no need, still cool though.

Pandora is simple and sometimes simple is just better. It doesn’t have the slick interface of Slacker but it also doesn’t crash on me. I have Pandora setup to execute when I tap my left convenience button and it signs in and starts playing my last station. I don’t have to select a station unless I want something different than what I last played. This makes it very easy to use.

Competition is good. I’ll be interested to see these two applications develop new features.

I am also in despair of a decision, but I am leaning towards Pandora. Mostly because it is a smoother application, easier to run, and never buffers or skips at all. My second favorite is Slacker simply becauase the music selection was a whole lot better as Pandora mostly plays your favorites first before reaching to the newer and similar songs, thus Slacker has better variety of a playlist, but it was buggy, even when I had my firewall turned off and I had the newest edition it was still a little buggy for me to use and switching between stations and scrolling was a pain because it was like viewing a webpage, while Pandora is a simple easy interface.

However, I am confident that Slacker will most definitely improve and might put Pandora in its place! So I’m excited to see the competition for the future of internet radio on our BlackBerries!

I have tried both apps now. Slacker at first and then Pandora as soon as it busted out the door. Since making the switch to Pandora I haven’t felt any need to go back to Slacker. Pandora is so smooth and the load times are much faster on my 8130. Also Slacker’s annoying commercial breaks to try to persuade you to upgrade to radio plus are much more intrusive than Pandora’s easily closed banner ads. Slacker does seem to branch out to different artists more which may be good or not depending on your listening style. Also radio caching is really pointless for me personally. I literally always connected and never have that need for it. Of course this may not be true if you are on AT&T!

What I think makes Slacker stand out is the sound quality of the music. I think it’s much better than the others I’ve heard. Certainly makes the unlimited data plan a bit less painful to shell out every month.

Until Pandora comes out with a Storm-compatible client, I’ll have to say Slacker is my favorite. I’ve seen Pandora on my wife’s Curve, though and am eager to give it a spin on my device. Here’s hoping it doesn’t take forever.

Definitely Slacker. The pre-programmed genre stations are so good and seem to offer a lot more (and better) music than Pandora. I’m a huge Alt fan and Slacker has a ton of stations in that category. I use the app on my Storm and have a few stations cached for when I fly.

Have been loving Moodio to stream di.fm streams that won’t natively work on a BB. Downside is it doesn’t “transpose” the id3 info so you ar in the dark as to what *exactly* you are hearing. Messed around with Slacker and see potential but was slow & music variety (trance/edm/metal) was not impressive. Will look for a newer ver to see if that perks things up. Just found out about Pandora & DLd but haven’t played with it yet. We’ll see.

Wish apps would check on v# on their own. Even google’s upgrade process is less than friendly.

Im a HUGE fan of the iheartradio app. I think the selection is great, the quality of the audio is clear. The set up is fast and easy and the app never interupts my other features on my phone which one of the others did. I like this one the best!

I heart radio! It’s amazing because its actually real stations that were once only available on your radio-radio. They made an incredible shift to BlackBerry….simply genius.

I have to say I Heart Radio as well. I can still listen to my favorite New York stations while I’m in Nashville, Tennessee. And I can also continue to be on the internet, make phone calls, etc., anything I want to do on my phone, without interrupting my iHeart Radio.Great program!

iheartradio is by far the best BlackBerry app! I have tried Slacker (too slow on my curve) and Pandora (incompatible with my DR-BT50 headset), and love iheartradio. The only issue I have with it is intermittent dropped connection.
