The CDMA BlackBerry Pearl Records Video

I don’t know now how I missed this but the BlackBerry Pearl 8130 will have video recording capabilities. I think that I got so excited that the little bugger was announced that I didn’t even look closely at the feature set.

awfully high quality at 2.0MP’s…… NOT But thats what dreams are made of.

verizon might not even deem video acceptable for it’s consumers. Stay tuned it might be one of the many removed or crippled functions of verizon’s 8130.

While I agree that Verizon is shameless in crippling of features, I don’t see them taking away the video capability. Verizon is a rational actor in all of this; they take away features because they see an economic advantage in doing so. For instance, they cripple native GPS so they can sell you their own service. They cripple bluetooth to prevent downloading of ringtones and songs so they can sell you those products, etc.

But there’s no good reason for them to cripple video recording, just like there is no good reason for them to cripple recording of still pictures. In fact, allowing consumers to record video, just like with still images, gives customers one more reason to purchase the device, one more reason to use up data minutes and data services. So if anything, VZW probably welcomes this feature on the device.

It would not surprise me at all if (when?) Verizon disables the GPS in the new Pearl. Alas. Oh well, I have an 8703 and a GPS built-in to my car.

Of course VZW will disable native GPS in the Pearl…however the rumor is that at about the same time they will release VZNavigator for both the Pearl and 8830, that of course will enable GPS for a price…

Can someone extract the video app and try it on an 8100?

Does anyone know if Verizon is going to release it in early, mid, or the end of November? I’m debating between the Pearl and the 8830 but I have no use for the features of having the world addition.

The rumor is that the Pearl will be available for preorder on 10/26 and available online 11/9…

Here’s a link to an image from a post on howardforums…they are usually a good source of info on VZW phones…
