Just over the weekend we mentioned that Twitter for BlackBerry v1.0.1.11 was leaked. Today however, Research in Motion has officially made Twitter for BlackBerry v1.1.0.16 available to members of BlackBerry Beta Zone.
Twitter for BlackBerry v1.1.0.16 includes quite a few feature updates including:
- Geo-tagging
- Push @Mentions
- Tweet Count Notifications
- #Topic Auto Complete
- Direct Message (DM) Redesign
- Screen Refresh
- Refreshed Twitter Branding
I just downloaded and installed the app myself, and I’ve got to admit, RIM has added some pretty slick features Twitter for BlackBerry v1.1.0.16…

The official Twitter for BlackBerry client has gotten an unofficial “leaked” update to version 1.0.1.13. This version seems to have an improved user interface and the home screen icon has been updated from the lower case “t” to an image of the Twitter bird icon.
“Twitter for BlackBerry v1.0.1.13 is leaked BlackBerry software and is unsupported. Install at your own risk…”

We figure that with UberTwitter being suspended, millions of BlackBerry users will be looking for another Twitter client to use on their device. If you happen to be one of those poor souls, we hope this list will make your search for a new BlackBerry Twitter client go a bit more quickly.
Here is our list of 7 BlackBerry Twitter clients to use while UberTwitter is suspended:
- Twitter for BlackBerry — This is the official BlackBerry Twitter client and I recommend installing it no matter what third party Twitter client you use. It can definitely get you by in times like these.
- SocialScope — I believe that SocialScope is in infinite closed beta, but, if you can get an invite, you may never even go back to UberTwitter.
- Seesmic for BlackBerry — We’ve only talked about Seesmic for BlackBerry a few times, but, Mac users seem to swear by it.
- HootSuite for BlackBerry — HootSuite is kind of cool because, like SocialScope, it connects to your Twitter and Facebook accounts.
- TweetGenius — Haven’t really heard anything bad about TweetGenius other than it cost $8.
- TwiXtreme – We talked about TwiXtreme when it first came out, but, not since. Maybe we should go back and check it out again.
- OpeanBeak — I honestly haven’t messed around with OpeanBeak since they changed the name from TwitterBerry.
For every third party BlackBerry Twitter client that I’ve put on this list, I’ve probably left 2 or 3 off. If you can think of a good Twitter client (updated in the last year or so) drop us a line in the comments.
I noticed that when I looked at my BlackBerry this morning I had that BlackBerry App World update icon on the screen. When I looked to see what BlackBerry application needed updating, it was one of my favorites, Twitter for BlackBerry. It looks like Research in Motion is doing an incremental update (not available to everyone all at once) to Twitter for BlackBerry v1.0.1.12.
If you have App World installed, you will see an update icon sooner or later. You can also just point your device over to http://www.blackberry.com/twitter where you can download the latest version OTA.
The official Twitter for BlackBerry application has been updated to version 1.0.1.7. Not a lot of changes from the last version as far as we can tell. Twitter for BlackBerry is free BlackBerry download and you can pick it up in BlackBerry App World, or, OTA by pointing your device’s browser to http://www.blackberry.com/twitter.
The official Twitter for BlackBerry app has been updated to version 1.0.1.4. Unfortunately there isn’t a change log, however, Adam from CrackBerry did notice that you know have the ability to change the video sharing service (yFrog or TwitPic). Twitter for BlackBerry is a free BlackBerry application that you can download version 1.0.1.4 from BlackBerry App World or online at www.blackberry.com/twitter.
When it comes to BlackBerry Twitter clients, there certainly is no shortage of options for you to choose from. Unfortunately, however, the BlackBerry Twitter client considered by many to be the best, Social Scope, has been in closed beta for what seems like the past couple of years and a production release, or, even an open beta available to whomever wishes to download it is no where in sight.

There is a new version of UberTwitter, arguably the most popular Twitter client for the BlackBerry, currently in a closed beta. The upcoming version, .9747, sports a completely reworked user interface which BlackBerry Leaks was lucky enough to get a sneak peek of.
Feedback on the new UberTwitter UI is pretty mixed. It kind of reminds me of the official Twitter for BlackBerry client, which, I actually quite like, thus, you can probably figure out which camp I fall into.
