TAT

Research in Motion announced this morning that they have acquired mobile UI (user interface) company TAT (The Astonishing Tribe) who will bring their talents in mobile interface design to the BlackBerry PlayBook and BlackBerry smartphones.

For those who don’t know, TAT is renowned for their innovative mobile user interface (UI) designs and has a long history of working with mobile and embedded technology. TAT focuses on delivering great user experiences, from a design, technology, and usability perspective. Their design technology is used today in a variety of industries including the consumerelectronics and automotive sectors.

To check out some of TAT’s work, head over to http://www.tat.se/ but they are probably best known for the UI on the original Android device, the T-Mobile G1…

We really haven’t talked much about the T-Mobile G1, the first mobile device to run Android, Google’s mobile operating system, however seeing how inexpensive it is at Wal-Mart, maybe we should talk about it a bit more.

Starting tomorrow, October 29th, the G1 goes on sale at the worlds largest retailer for $148.88 with a 2-year contract. That is $31.11 less than the $179.99 the G1 currently runs through T-Mobile.

Because of the price and the fact that Google created the OS, the T-Mobile G1 might compete with lower end BlackBerrys and possibly even the iPhone for users that are tied to T-Mobile. I am half way tempted to buy one myself just so that I can talk about it.
