Although discounted BlackBerry PlayBook pricing may be coming to an end at some retailers it would appear that it is just getting started at others. RadioShack which regularly sales the BlackBerry PlayBook for $479.99 is offering a $180 instant-rebate bring the price of the 16GB model down to $299.99. The $180 instant-rebate runs through October 15th, but, rumor has it that RadioShack will offer a $180 gift card after the 15th.

Although RadioShack was named when RIM announced retail channels for the BlackBerry PlayBook, they didn’t immediately offer the device for pre-sale as did BestBuy or, even days later as did Office Depot. RadioShack has gone with the ‘better late than never’ approach waiting a mere 5 days before the launch of the BlackBerry PlayBook before making it available for pre-order. We should note, however, that it appears that RadioShack will only be carrying the 16GB version of the BlackBerry PlayBook which is priced at $499.99. You can pre-order here…

We missed the news last week that RadioShack hit the impressive “One Million BlackBerries Sold” mark, however, we are mentioning it now for two reasons. Word on the street is that RadioShack, or, The Shack, as they like to think of themselves these days, is now carrying the Sprint BlackBerry Curve 8530. You can pick it up for $29.99 on a new 2-year Sprint Everything plan with data or $49.99 on an upgrade.
This is a really good deal on a really good smartphone. It’s also one of the reasons that I am certain that Apple, with their current model of selling iPhones, will never dominate the U.S. smartphone market, although many an iPhone user already thinks Apple does… I digress, however, and will leave that for another post.
